As if you can trust "good leads". Most, if not any cable is made in Asia and for us drivers it will always be the question if they have used original (JST) connectors or some Chinese knock offs. Beside that, if you only trust "good brands" then most battery brands also sell cables, basically you can not go wrong with them.

I just ordered three 12AWG 2s charge leads from AliExpress for $15.30 delivered. I'll let you know how they compare to my custom made, TQ and AVID cables. I can't even build them from scratch for that cheap. My only real fear is that they used aluminum wire instead of copper. Even if they did, at the currents I'm planning on using these at, it won't be an issue.

You can find these cables in any RC shop, then why the question?

Then what's the point of this forum? Should everyone that asks a question be told to go find the answer themselves?

There is nothing wrong with asking questions but asking the most simple questions with which the answer is just a few clicks away should in my opinion not be asked but found by them self. As I mention more often this is a hobby, something you do and not let it be done by others because you refuse to take a small effort to find those answers by your self or do some own research of what/where to buy..
If the guy at first a kind of agrees with me that races are not won by the charger cable and then starts cursing me then why not visiting some shops and get a cable that has the right connectors?
And to be honest, you can better ask all those other guys why they directly start writing nasty words if you point them to a useful use of a search or reading a manual with even a given link to it with a mentioned page number where to find the answer. if they do not get the right wanted answer. Almost no one ever said a kind of sorry that he could do that first before asking. But that is the internet today, total no effort for the most simple things, just ask it and someone will answer....

HMMMM... WOW.... MMM....? Donathan rc maybe ?! I just wanted to know? What everyone thought of the charger....

Geez…….asking an opionion of what other people are using when there are MULTIPLE versions of a part resulted in all this?

Does Roelof own the ToolkitRC M8D charger? I keep checking in to see if any more information has been added about the charger, because the ToolkitRC M8D is atop my list for what's next in upgrading for my RC wants/needs. All this rambling on about whether or not a simple/non-simple charging lead question should have been asked in the first place makes me think less of this thread/forum. The added nonsense could have possibly been avoided if person(s), who don't own the charger, just paid attention to a question that asked for users of the charger to chime in.

thats 100% of every thread on this forum unfortunately. Thats why I don’t frequent here too often anymore.

……as for the charger its great and easy to use. I used a 6S 6000 pack to power it yesterday. Fully charged the pack is a 25.2V I charged two 6300 packs at 20amps from storage voltage to 8.7 for practice. Monitored ir’s during the charge to see what they are at before a second charge after discharging. The interface is simple and easy to use so selecting the regenerative discharge function was cake. I discharged at 20amps down to 3.6 per cell. The Voltage of the 6S pack increased as the 6300 was being discharged. Simple process and very straightforward. Now the only concern I had was the 6S pack. I personally don’t discharge a pack down past 3.5 per cell so for the 6S that 21.0V and monitoring its voltage which is displayed on the screen i was near that and didn’t want to take it below a safe voltage so I removed it and placed the normal power cable on and connected to my power supply. I finished the day charging one my M8D but discharging on my Muchmore charger. I don’t know what capacity pack should be used for powering the charger but the actual features of this unit are nice. Especially at the price point. I lucked out getting it during a Labor Day sale. I hear that there’s a regenerative bank soon to be released for this similar to the icharger bank.

Let me remind you the discussion was about a charger cable, things you can find in almost any shop.....

Same experience for me this weekend. I have a 6s that powered the M8D, charging and discharging (at 20A) my 2s race packs. I got down to 17v on the 6s and had to plug in the power supply.... Curious, did you try to discharge on channel 1 and charge on channel 2at the same time? I don't think you can do this with the 6s in regenerative mode powering the M8D, but not sure...

rustyus 09-15-2024 11:43 AM

Can a person use a resistor bank to discharge a battery on the M8D?

Nothing in the manual about the use of 800W @MAX 30A Recycle mode. I currently have/use a resistor bank, on my Hota units, to discharge a pack quickly if the pack is not going to used shortly. Being able to do the same with the M8D would be a selling point to me.

I was thinking the same thing but never tried it. In theory I dont think it can work if we are pulling from the 6S to charge and also trying to put power into it…….then again would it be basically circulating the power? Looks like a bench test coming up later this evening.

As stated before, no, you cannot use a resistor bank for this charger. The only way you can discharge at the 800W is if you power the charger with a 4 cell battery or car battery and dump the charge back into that.

I really try my best to not feed internet trolls but I'm failing at this with this thread......

Perhaps some people don't have easy access to a shop they can go look at cables. Or perhaps the local shop people have access to don't have a complete line of every cable available on the market. Or perhaps a person wants other people's opinions on what they use.
