It's interesting. Any thoughts on who is actually making these, and if they will be decent?

ZTW, and they'll probably be good as the other ZTW ODM models usually are.

I have about a dozen race days with the 220A MX8 Pro ESC from Trinity and I have mixed feelings about it.

For a racer, it checks off all the basic needs and gets the job done nicely, however I found it necessary to have reverse disabled which is a problem for me when I am practicing and there are no marshals present. I found too many times where I'd get hung up where simple reverse would've been perfect to keep my session going but having to do the long walk of shame too many times forced me to ditch the ESC.

The issue I experience with reverse enabled is that there is no delay before reverse is engaged where if you were to feather tap the brake in mid flight or a tight corner, the car would suddenly snap into a violent cartwheel or spin out because reverse would engage when all I wanted was to tap the brake gently a few times.

Are you sure you used the correct running mode setting? There's 3. Forward with brake, forward with brake and reverse, and forward with reverse. It sounds like you set it to forward with reverse.

I definitely had brake, the problem is that when you pump the brake it tends to actuate reverse without any delay like most other brands of ESC's operate their reverse... epic design fail, other racers in my area experienced the same problem and we all were forced to disable reverse to make the ESC usable in a race.

In most places i know around here, reverse is not legal during a race. I like it on practice days though, since there are no marshals then.

To clarify, I never use reverse in race, however it's necessary to use during warmup/practice when marshals are not present. It was really irritating when Frank Root's answer to my concern was "reverse isn't allowed in racing" that to me is a lame excuse for a design flaw in the product:

Can you not use the program card with the gen 2? Do I have to get the wireless one?

The MX8 gen 2 has the module built in. The MX10 gen 2 needs the new programmer

The trinity 1/8th escs have wifi/bluetooth built in and are legal to run? The same Trinity that constantly cheats for the last couple decades and had a driver adding turbo over wifi that made the no wifi rule exist in the first place? The same company?

Huh. Weird.

That's pretty funny... you do know that 1/8 does not have esc rules like 1/10 zero timing.

Huh. Weird.....

New Trinity ESC coming https://www.redrc.net/2025/09/trinity-mx10-gen3-esc/

Who makes this for HH?
Any early insights into performance?

Pre-order one for my 22X-4 refresh to go with a 13.5T Slot Machine 2 Certified I had sitting around from the exchange program. (I’ve gotten into “factory” builds on my latest models where I try to keep everything from the kit through electronics from the same company.)

Looks like they stuck with ZTW for the OEM

The more I look at it, the more it looks like Hobbywing

Curious if it’s the same platform as the current HW G3. I haven’t really run any of my G3 ESCs much. Most of my track time has been with R1 electronics which I’ve been happy with so far.
