Product Comparison
I noticed there are a lot of us that like to make side-by-side comparisons on different products. I believe we need a thread where we can quickly find these comparisons.
If you have any products that you compared, side-by-side, please post your results here. Please make sure to add real numbers and not just your personal thoughts. There are 1000's of racers out there, and each racer has their own personal thought. Therefore, numbers will help the neutral people make their own assumptions. |
Here I compared 5 electric motors. All are 17.5T motors.
These motors are tested in this video.
|
I just purchased a brand new HobbyWing G4 17.5 to run tests on. I completed my testing the day it was delivered. I'll post the link of the video as soon as I get it up, which should be today.
|
I finally completed the video for testing the Hobbywing V10 G4 17.5T motor. Here is the video that shows the results.
Let me know what other popular motors I should test. I have the parts coming to rebuild a Tekin Redline G3 17.5T motor. I'll post the results as soon as I get it done. https://youtu.be/L-9bAnVzTD8 |

If you get the Tunalizer, you have to get the Loadmaster. That will give you more data about the motors, especially if you are comparing them. At the very least, you should be the WMH Racing motor stand. Using alligator clips really suck! |
I am itching to test more motors. What motors are the most popular? I did the Trinity, Surpass, Fantom, and Hobbywing. Do a lot of racers use the Tekin motors? Help me out here, please.

Over here LRP/Nosram and Muchmore are quite popular (like Hobbywing is)
Are you referring to these two motors? Are they both ROAR approved? Muchmore FLETA ZX SPECTER V3 Brushless Motor (17.5T) [MMRMR-V3ZX175SPT] - AMain Hobbies LRP X22 Stock Spec 540 Sensored Brushless Motor (17.5T) [LRP520202] - AMain Hobbies I just ran a test on the Hobbywing G4. It was not impressive. What really put a bad taste in my mouth is how lose the windings were. I'm sure it's not like that with all, but you have to expect that mine was not the only one out there like it. It is a competitive motor, but due to how popular it is, I was expecting more. |
To be honest, I have no idea if they are ROAR approved. I just assumed when Hobbywing is on your list, these others might be as well.

I’d be curious about REDS VX3 Factory Select. Similar concept to Trinity Certified Plus and Fantom Works Edition motors.

I saw that one, but it's a 3 year old motor. I don't want to buy, test it, then find out it's being replaced next month. Also, I don't think I want to test certified motors anymore. After testing and research, I find those to be a major rip off to the consumers. They purposely make their rotors more powerful than their spec motors and charge $50 more for it. I have found you can get a motor, from a company that doesn't do certified motors, that are pretty comparable. Heck, Trinity's certified motors didn't even come with titanium screws. |

Thank you. I just order a new rotor and bearings for a Tekin Redline G3 17.5. I want to find out if building a motor is worth it. The only problem is, I don't have numbers from when it was new. I don't think that matters too much because it will still give an idea if it is competitive and worth doing. |
