Default Cars per radio ratio

So I am looking for my second crawler and while it may be only my second one I am trying to think and plan ahead so my question is this. At what point do you have one radio for all or most of your vehicles? I can see later on it being a bigger project and more expensive at one swoop that doing it slowly. I am just not sure what to do. So far these have been RTR vehicle but plan on building in the future. How many of you have numerous cars on one transmitter and if so how many? What are the drawbacks to doing this?

Thanks

David

I've got maybe 15 cars and one radio. The downside is that the radio only has 10 model memory, so I have to keep reprogramming it when I use my less frequently run cars. I'm due for a new radio with more memory...

I used to have about 7 cars split between two radios. I had one radio for racing and the other for bashing and as a spare/loaner if needed at the track. I have scaled it back to just 4 cars and still keep this arrangement.

No real drawbacks to having multiple cars on a radio other then being able to share with your friends/family. But thats why I have the 2nd radio that is compatible with half my cars.

In the base there is nothing wrong with each car having its own transmitter. Only several RTR cars gives several different transmitters, all with an own feeling, switch from one to another can be anoying.

Having one transmitter for all will give a same feeling in controls but transmitters with more model memories will also give you more advanced settings compared with a simple RTR transmitter.

When I first got into the hobby I had focused more on quantity rather than quality... my radio of choice was a FlySky and because Rx's were cheap I could easily expand my collection of 10 cars per radio, I learned it best to mark each radio between on-road vs off-road cars to help keep track of which radio operated each respective class in my collection, I would eventually get up to a 3rd radio (25+ vehicles) to manage my oddball classes, like crawling, drifting, MotoGP and Surfer.

What started out being an economical solution would turn into a complete nightmare for me as my cheap Fly Sky Rx's started failing on me one after another... I would experiment with buying many other budget brand radio systems and was never fully satisfied for one reason or another until I came across Radiolink which seemed to be the best of the budget systems for my needs. Best part being that Radiolink stood the test of time without failing on me where FlySky left me with too many disappointments

Over time, I got burned out on bashing around and would become a dedicated club racer, I slowly thinned out my herd and now I only maintain 6 classes on a single high end Graupner X-8E system, which supports up to 35 model memories.

Here are some things to consider when making your selection:
Which surface radio system is the best?

If you think that the fleet is going to continue to grow. Pick a controller early on. I made the mistake of waiting. It would cost small fortune to consolidate for me now.

My five stadium trucks share two radio systems between them. All trucks have their own receiver, so no need to swap them about. Just a change in model number or name on the controller picks up one or other of the trucks.

Time was I owned a lot of RTR radios and tried to match them to individual applications. Sold them on Ebay and am now holding to two moderately high end radio systems. This is what works for me and do not anticipate owning more than two radio systems at once. Having dedicated receivers in each model can get a bit pricey, but worth it to me not have to move them about.

I maintain a 5x8 index card in my pit binder listing which trucks have which radios along with model numbers and names to help keep them straight.

Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers and Regards. 'AC'

All of my race stuff is on my 4PX. Crawlers on the DX5 rugged. Anything else is on the RTR electronics that can't be changed (micro sized or has an all in one unit)
