Questions?? Using a channel on receiver without a transmitter

Hi, I'm new here and I am doing a mod of old KENNER Ecto-1.

I recently decided to purchase some AX-511 LEDs for this project as I had a 6 channel RC receiver laying around. It's a Sodial DSM-X 6 Channel 2.4ghz receiver. So, I am trying to figure out if it's possible to control the LED cycles without having to sync a transmitter to this receiver.

All my LEDs are connected with splitters on the Channel 3, working fine with my transmittter, but for the project I'm doing i'm considering an I/O switch to turn them on and a push button to change the cycles.

Is that even possible?

I think to do this you would need a control module for the lights. All the lights could plug into the control module, then use one channel of the radio to control which modes of the lights you want.

Here is a DIY project on youtube that might do what you want:

I couldn't find an off the self solution for what you are trying to do, but I only did a quick search.
