Received an NB4 over the weekend and started messing around with it. I don't have a lot to compare to as the last real radio I had was a Futaba 2ch crystal. This must be what my grandparents experienced seeing smartphones for the first time lol.

The transmitter was on FW ver 2.0.85 (I think...) and I updated to 2.093 FCC and then 2.0.100 FCC versions hoping I would bind a receiver after the .93 upgrade and not have to rebind but that was not the case. Had to put the receiver into force bind to get them to update after updating the Tx. Aside from the not so straightforward firmware updating this seems like a really great setup and easy to navigate/use.

I did have some confusion with the Assistant. The download is a .rar file and you need to use 7zip (or something else that can extract the contents) to get to the .exe to run it. That was a bit of a frustration as well but got it all up and running. Just ordered another FGr4S v2 for my B74.1D build. Looking forward to getting more stick (wheel?) time with this remote. Great feel in the hand.

I've started the build of my B74.1D and am looking for servo suggestions for something that would work well for the buggy and the NB4transmitter. I know that I could drop just about any servo in and it would work but is there a protocol that I should look for that functions like Futaba's SR or Sanwa's SXR but for the NB4? I'm currently looking at the below servos for the build. I'll be using a FGr4S v2 for the receiver.

I run both the 160t (EB410.2) and 160tbl (ET410.2) with my NB4. Performance is excellent. SR is proprietary to Futaba, and likewise for Sanwa's fastest transmission modes.

Savox is a nice servo for the money, lots of people have the 1258, and replacement gears should be available if need be. Proteks are just rebranded Highest servos. The 160TBL is better than the 160t (brushless vs. brushed), thus if you are going to spend the money, get the TBL.

Seems like you & I are, essentially, in the same boat. I'm also building a B74.1, albeit, the Astro/Carpet Team Edition (ie. not the 'D'). First, I find it "interesting" that you indicate both ProTek servos are "more than you want to spend", yet the AGF isn't much cheaper...plus, none of them (including the Savox) are waterproof. Regarding Savox, personally, I avoid them. They are overly-noisy, and "power hogs". As I'll be racing on a carpet track, 'needing' a waterproof servo isn't a concern...but, when racing on dirt/clay, you should strongly consider a waterproof servo. This might sound like a strange/unusual choice, but I'll be installing the ProTek 140T - it's just as fast, and almost as strong, as the others, at a lower cost (ok, so, technically, it's about the same price as the AGF)...plus, it's waterproof. And, if you purchase from Amain, and it has any problems (not that I've ever had ANY problems with ProTek servos), warranty replacement is super-simple.

One thing to note: Starting from firmware 2.0.93 through current, one no longer needs to update the receiver's firmware after updating the radios F.W. You still need to re-bind though.

I just updated to firmware 2.0.100FCC, rebound my FRg4s, plus others, and everything works fine with no need to update any of the RX firmware before re-binding.

If someone out there does experience an issue with binding a receiver, it could mean the receiver has an old FW on it and may require a forced update to the current version. Moving forward, you should have this issue no longer.

Thanks for the info Panther. After being out of the game for a bit there’s a lot that has changed. Used to be only a couple options so much easier to make a decision lol.

after a lot of digging and looking around I ended up going with a Blue Bird BLM-M91S. It’s a low profile servo and seems pretty bomb proof from what I’ve read. About $20 less than a ProTek 160TBL but uses a magnetic sensor instead of a pot. I don’t have it in hand yet but Redwing RC just put in an order so hopefully soon.

I’ll have to report back once I get it setup.

gotta say, really liking the Tx. Haven’t dug into many settings yet but as far as feel and usability it’s great. Just have it run I g a brushless mini-T right now so first setting I’m going to mess with is the throttle mapping so I don’t wheelie as much.

Just got my Noble in the mail tonight...
I did get the two antenna-less receivers (Fgr4s) and the one huge telemetry type (if it don't fit in my crawler receiver box will be trashed)....
What i'm looking for is the smallest mini/micro receiver that will fit in my SCX24's and other mini RC's. The 4s WILL fit (as I used to run the Sanwa 481/482's but would rather have something smaller if able.

My only real complaint with Flysky is how dang big the receivers are. I'm considering switching back to Radiolink to have smaller receivers. I have the FGR4S stuck in my SCX24 but it's huge in that chassis and takes up too much room.

Sure, the GMR is great for micro vehicles if they use the micro servo leads. Otherwise you're either rewiring your electronics or running adapters, which take up more room...

WHY would you have even tried to shove an FGR4S inside an SCX24??? There ARE micro receivers for the Noble NB4 (DasMikro even makes a micro ESC/Rx for the Noble NB4). DON'T "complain" about something that you did...you chose to use an Rx in something too small for it. That's like shoving a Chevy 454 inside a Volkswagen Beetle, and then complaining that the engine is too big for the car (for those wondering, you can fit a Porsche Flat-6 inside an old Bug).

It fits fine, anyways, just had to let it hang off the side a little.



But when I can get tiny receivers like this R4FGM for half the cost, it's hard to not want to switch over.



BTW, the FGR4 mentioned above a few posts ago that comes with the NB4 is pretty much useless. I had to decase it and shove it into the receiver box on my Tekno MT410. Don't tell me that's like shoving some V8 into some tiny car. That receiver box fits almost any other receiver but the FGR4 is so big it doesn't fit into anything. It wouldn't fit into my TRX4 receiver box either. There is no reason it needs to be that massive.

I probably should have known the NB4 fanboys would come out swinging if I had any complaints at all.
