Default Hitec Charging Issues, Battery or Charger?

I've been having an issue charging for several weeks now.

When I put a pack on to charge (balance or charge modes) the battery charger instantly shows 8.4v and low amperage. On the page that shows the voltage of the individual cells they read 3.99 and 3.98. It runs for 5-10min and then beeps like its fully charged.

Then if you take the exact same pack (don't disconnect it from the charger or anything) and put it on storage mode the battery charger instantly shows 7.6v, runs for 5-20min and then beeps that it is finished. When you check the battery with a multi meter ir reads ~7.6v

The only way I can get a solid charge is to use Balance mode at 1.5amps or less.

I initially thought this was due to my crap old batteries. I picked up a new Orion pack and it charged up fine but when I went to storage it after racing yesterday it did the same thing.

Using a Hitec X1 AC Plus I've had for 5-6yrs. These issues have been pretty recent. I've tried different leads, no difference. I don't have another balance board to try.

Anyone have this happen before? Is the solution just a new charger?

Thanks for any help!

Is there an option to try another charger/battery?
Maybe a fellow driver or at the local hobby shop?

But you have tried a new/different battery and with storage the same thing so I would think there is something wrong with the charger.

Sounds like something may be awry with the charger. After 5-6 years, I would say you've had a good run and it's time to upgrade to a new charger (Hitec RDX1 PRO perhaps).

Cool, thanks guys. I appreciate the second opinions over what I suspected. Over to the for sale forum I go.
