Does anybody know officially if RC products are subject to the 25% tariffs by the US from China? I read it's mostly industrial products, but don't want any surprises when I order my Voltz.
How does that work? Do they send you a bill?

It's most likely going to just result in a overall price increase for any products that use Chinese materials.

This is direct from China. Nobody knows if RC products qualify under the new tariffs?
Nitro--So, the freight company bills me?
Just looked it up:Who Collects a Tariff?
Tariffs are paid to the customs authority of the country imposing the tariff. Tariffs on imports coming into the United States, for example, are collected by Customs and Border Protection, acting on behalf of the Commerce Department. I'm still not sure how I would pay it. If they let the product ship and send me a bill or if I have to pay them before it's released to the shipper. ??

In my case, Fedex collected the tariff. They sent me a duty/tariff invoice. I highly doubt that rc products are tariffed or you would have seen a price increase from the major distributors on all products.

I am the owner of a new high performance rc racing corporation soon to be launching, PRO PERFORMANCE RC. Tariffs are absolutely involved in the industry and many products are at 25 percent. However it appears that small quantities of items purchased aimed for personal use most likely will not still be affected. If a tariff is due determined by customs and if the shipment is by a courier service it is classified as a non formal entry. Simply put the courier acts as your customs broker on your behalf and will make direct contact with you at the time of arrival to make payment.

I can't speak to the question if RC products will be subject to the new 25% tariffs or not, but I do know a few things since I have been dealing with this in my job currently. First off if your shipment is not $800+ you will not be hit with the new 25% tax. Next, if your shipment is over $800 and it falls into one of 801 commodities (HS Codes/ Harmonized codes) that this new tax effects that the shipper chooses and puts on the shipping paperwork then you will be hit with this new tax. Basically, don't buy over $800 worth of stuff in one shipment and you are golden. Hope this helps.

What harmonized code are you using Brian?
I've seen this as well Stork. I'm currently filing an appeal on a shipment as the manufacturer used the wrong hs code and I was charged a tariff based on that code.

I am working on this today and if you have any suggestions I would definitely listen. Production has started for me yesterday on a line of High Voltage,Digital,Brushless,Sanwa SSR compatible servos that I have put lots of hard work into and effort to get them here before the release of the M17. It looks like I have a few to choose from and the one classified under “toys” comes with no tariff but the proper code looks like 25 percent. This is my first time importing so I assume that they might be looked at harder in customs when they arrive and I also don’t want to do anything incorrect and have repercussions later.

I have already reached out to two different customs brokers and have obtained minimal help. I finally found a good one to hire for this cause as my attorney and my accountant that specializes in importing still couldn’t answer everything that I need to know to do this and some other procedures properly.

I have some truly awesome things going on in production right now and can’t wait to show them to the racing community! Starting this corporation has been a long time coming for me and a very long journey working up to 20 hours a day or beyond sometimes for months on end. Many challenges have been faced along the way and this is just a small thing to figure out. Hundreds of dedicated hours or more have been spent finding manufacturers that were willing and able to make the sickest products in the industry for my company to bring to the market and for my personal advantage racing at the highest levels as well. The next step is getting the products here safely.

Normally there is more than one Harmonized code that can be used for each type of part/commodity (at least for the computer parts industry). The descriptions they list in these harmonized codes really leave it open to interpretation. I would find a few that you think your product fits, then call up DHL (or whatever carrier you plan to use) and ask for the duty and tax team. Ask them if the harmonized codes you found are part of this new 25% tariff. They should tell you, they told me. DHL's direct line for the Duty and Tax Team is 866-638-7668. May save you some time on hold to finally get to the right people to talk to.
