I'm like you - I've done 4 of these for me and my son, less that $100 invested for all 4. I see a lot of the "re-seller" server power supplies in the pits, I think for a lot of people it's a time vs money thing, or they just are not comfortable modifying the supplies. I'm no EE, but I'm not afraid of breaking stuff to learn how it works ...... fortunately I break less stuff as I get older. :)

Smart and lucky move - I was shocked when I went looking for a supply recently - what used to be $15 - $20 my price was suddenly $80 - $100. Luckily, the 60 amp versions are still cheap and work fine 99% of the time.

Away from the argument, I like the Lightner dischargers and most people at my track use them. They are made local to me in California and fell pretty high quality. I see sometimes the r1 wurks discharger fan breaking but the Lightner works great for me.

That charger is serious overkill for charging 2S shorty packs.

Like using a sledge to hammer finishing nails... :lol:

But to answer your question, yes that power supply will be fine even if you charge two of those 2S 5000mAh shorty packs at the same time. (5-10 amps each, not 40)

Yes, the PS is rated at 85 Amps.
By noting a charge rate of 5-10 Amps I was alluding to the fact that I would never recommend charging a 2S shorty pack at 40 Amps, whether or not the equipment could do it. ;)

I have seen people charge 2s at 40amps. They say it makes a difference, but I still would not recommend.

Like everyone is saying, I too use a power supply from an old computer. It does the job and no need to go overboard on price. :-)
