Just make sure to get something with at least 3 channels since you probably want to maintain a reverse. Definitely dont need to spend a fortune on a 15 year old truck
My personal basher radio I like radiolink - has alot of nice to have features and receivers are cheap and can be sourced from alot of different venders (also rebranded at hobbking as the ts4g.
RadioLink RC4G 2.4G 4CH Transmitter W/R4EH-G Rx / Gyro Integrated #RC4G 2.4G (Discontinued), ,(RC4G 2.4G)

+1 to rebinding the Rx, I would search for a copy of the user manual online and follow the instructions.
If no luck with that, then I would highly recommend Radiolink for a low budget system:

Some places still sell the older versions even cheaper!

If you decide to buy a high quality radio system, then I would caution you to stay away from Direct Sequencing (Spektrum, FlySky, Radiopost, etc)
Some top name brands to consider in alphabetical order (Futaba, Graupner, HiTec and Sanwa)
I currently race with Graupner which has proven to be the perfect balance between price and performance to meet my needs, but any of these 4 brands will offer plenty of different features for you to make a solid choice.
Although this post is rather dated, I would encourage you to create a similar chart with updated systems to cross reference and help decide for yourself which is best for you to consider:

OK one more question. The remote "sacmiata" calls out in this forum requires this battery
>Power Input:6V-18V DC (1.5AA*4), 2S-4S lithium battery compatible(Not included)<
could someone narrow that down, i have no idea what the battery is. Thanks

It takes 4 AA batteries.
Basically the radio can take lipo/life batteries as well but personally I don't think its worth the trouble for most people.
I use these - because the radio is only rated for 3s (the 4s listed is a lie!) I just use the factory battery holder just use 2 batteries and jump the other two spots out with a piece of wire.
