That is just a reference to how the colors intersect, or the shapes of them correspond to each other. Basically the length of the shapes in relationship to each other, the effect of rounded versus pointed corners and such.
The thing is, it's a lot about preference really. As you get comfortable with the painting part, your focus will move to shapes, lengths and their relationships.

Body for the challange cup.
Firstly young Johno. You lucky bugger. It turned out way better than I expected. Bit of a gamble using gold and chrome. But I think it worked.
