I just brought O.S. max .21VZ-R Ver.II yesterday.
I read owner’s instruction manual book on page 11, ˝ way of the page it say “Use the same fuel as is to be employed for all initial running and containing NOT LESS THAN 18% lubricant.” Has anyone really used this high % of oil contained? After I read all 2 pages of this thread, it could be save to use it. Regards, |
I was wondering what's the low end on this engine?
I currently run rally game races 1/8th asphalt with a lowered hyper 7 using a v-spec engine. The thing is that at slow turns the v-spec has too much power and spins the rear out very easily.BUT i don't want to use an engine which is dead down low cause the car weights around 3.9Kg(8lbs 10oz) and with the taller gearing for on-road and no wheel spin...! Does the v-zr ver.II has enough low end power for this application? |
Good thread. I just picked up the last one from Ace. It's sitting in the box until I decide just what to do with it. :p

modded vz-r
hello
does anyone run modified vz-r engines? i just wanted to know what the performance is like compared to stock. thanks |
What runtimes do you all get from this engine?
Is it as good as the v-spec on buggies(get's close to 9-10mins pair tank)? |
i get close to 6.5mins on this engine, i also noticed i gained half a minute with the modified piston sleeve.
i dont think many on road .21s can run for 9 - 10 mins this is a great engine just lacks a bit of top end but ill be working on that with my engine guy to gain more top speed |
Only 6.5mins. Is this the best it can do?(on what track?)
I'm running on-road rally game races and with the v-spec i got around 8.30 on a short track though. I suppose on a larger track with more WOT runs it would be around 7.30. |
not sure where you are but i race at moorebank, sydney australia
its a large open track so your on full throttle most of the time. 6.5mins is plenty you really only want engines running 5.5mins for pit stops |
I ran the piston, sleeve, and crank from a VZR2 with a V-Spec carb, head, and turbo button with a P3 plug. The block, con rod, end plate, and bearings are the same for both. I ran it off-road in an XB8. It worked out prettygood because our track last seaon was low traction so I didn't need all the torque of the V-Spec. The combo I put together extended the top end way more. My buggy would run away from anyother car, period, on our 140' straight. I always like massive torque off the bottom so my favorite pipe is the Jammin JP-1. I could get 7 min. on 125cc. with the blue restrictor.
The VZR2 piston, sleeve, and crank will fit right into your V-Spec. Too bad, I blew it up. It was spinning the tires all the time down the straight I over-revved it too many times the rod snapped. |
How would you compare the v-spec and vzr ver II consumption on the same track you race?
Have you run both on the same track? |
I never ran a full VZR2 but with the above setup the fuel consumption was really close to the V-Spec. I never really timed it but I refilled at 7min same as when I ran the full on V-Spec. Like I said it changed the power output to more weighted on the top end. With this setup I never had issues clearing jumps or getting out of corners fast. I just had to give it a bit more pull on the left trigger. I pefer this setup over the stock V-Spec because I found the V-Spec lacking on the top end. Sure I got a good charge out of the corners but the Nova guys would catch me half way down the straight. However, When I ran this setup I pulled away from all of them. Give it a try.
If I do the same thing again this year. I'd get a VZR2 crank, piston/sleeve, TKO ceramic front and rear bearing and throw it my V-Spec. Try RC Champ out of japan for OS parts. When I was in Tokyo I got the crank for 4500 yen, Piston/sleeve for 7500 yen, and the rod for 1900 yen. I have 4 V-Specs but my new favorite engine fo now is a Maxpower M8T but if it gives me too many tuning headaches the V-Spec is an engine change away. |

This engine has no bottom end wat so ever! slow..
is this normal guys? |
Why would you say that?
You are talking about your modified one? Is it the ver 2? [I have bought one two weeks ago and have gone almost 10tanks of fuel through it and i can't turn the flywheel without preheating the engine...] I still have it way rich on both bottom and top needles and it has great power at least down low where i can drive it(haven't past the 20000-25000rpm mark yet). |

Really 18% oil is way too high for an on road vehicle... 18% oil would be best suited for boats and planes .. |
