break in

Even at 70 celcius for breakin is a little too cool. 70c equals 158f 94c / 201f is about where the engine need to be to get keep it from wearing out during the breakin.

first race .

heys guy thanks for your advice
i had my first run with the mrx4 and vz-r yesterday and damn it does have some power. i tuned the engine to race tune in the 2 second qualifier and none of the other cars could over take me in the straight. these were collari and rb engine cars

i still believe the bottom-mid is a little rich though.

the compression is super tight with the plug in so that sholdbe ok. i got this engine as a cheap starting point to my 1/8. when it blows ill get a max mf or novarossi with more power.

mrgsr 06-28-2006 06:21 PM

whats a good tune temp for these engines ?
im new to .21 engines and i know in a lola body they run much cooler dude to the exposed head.

i must say after all the dramas ive had with this engine i am happy with the performance.

O.S. VZ-R II

Last few times I raced, it has been on the warm side around 85-90%F with low humidity. My motor runs best when its a bit hot, and 250 degrees up to 270, still showing good signs of smoke out the pipe. I would run it cooler if it ran well, but it runs too rich at lower temps. I only use mine for racing and use the Lola body too.

I heard recently that Futaba owns O.S...... I had no idea.

Couple of questions:

Who are you all using for an air filter and fuel line filter?

And how many turns from close do you have your adjustment screw(the main one)?

Wa running the car earlier and would like to confirm what I have. the engine screams. no problems yet.

Thanks

graphiteman 06-30-2006 05:36 PM

I am using the INS Box for the intake. Im not sure how many turns out my setting is, but it is below the "flush" setting by at least 1/8" maybe more.

My motor has run well with and without the filter/pressure tank many use.

Thanks I haven't had any problems either, until today. The clutch bell blew off. Shoes included. Access the damage in the morning

Dag32,

Like graphiteman, I also have an OS VZRII on my MRX-4R. I got the car and the engine about a month ago and finished running-in the engine last week at Revelation. I do not have a lot of experience with 8th scale cars and engines but I think the OS VZRII is a good engine specially for its price which I got at $269.00 dollars. I know that the more expensive engines out there are faster and will probably last longer than the OS but since I do not plan to compete, I simply refuse to spend more than $600 for an engine.

Any of you So Cal locals running at Crystal Park this weekend for the RC Pro Series event? Its a 2 day event, check it out if you can.

weird tune..

hey guys my engine had a weird day of running today..
it did 3 qualifying heats with crazy power running no more than 95-100 degrees celsius (os vz-r .21)

then in the final it blew 2 plugs straight away. the engine came out fast as hell for about 2 minutes then just went slower and died. this when it blew the plugs. we tried to go richer on the top end but it blew the second plug to..

could it be head clearance ?
the engine is standard except for a small turbo scoop in the button head

what do you think

thanks..

Tuning

This is what i found on mine. I run 25% fuel and p6 glowplug. I think you have the same problem i had. Your idle screw may be too high and the bottom is too rich causing the main needle to be too lean . Try lowering the idle and leaning the low needle . then richen the main needle. Hope this helps.

mrgsr 08-21-2006 05:57 AM

thanks for that dude
howeve..i took the engine apart and its pretty much dead
the pistons face is rougher than sandpaper and there are grooves in the liner
rest of the engine is sweet

im over it though its been th biggest bitch of an engine. its so new as well yet so many headache. im just gonna sell it off for parts.. carb etc

hopefully my mega dsII engne is more reliable

TooFastForYa 08-21-2006 07:21 AM

The motor is suffering from detonation. You need to add some head clearance using shims. I had this problem with this engine. Even using the extra shim included with the engine isn't enough.

Hi Guys,

I run the VZR v2 with my XR8 yesterday at my local track, the engine run very well. It may not be as fast as those JP/Ninja/Picco out there, but it was not that slow. It was really easy to tuned and the tuned stay good through out my 35 Mins A Main.

mrgsr 10-02-2006 06:03 AM

vzr v2 parts..

hey guys

i gave up on my engine and so im selling the parts..

all parts are less than 3 litres old
crankshaft, head, conrod and maybe the carb

let me know if your interested.. all parts are in as new condition, will be great if you wanna try modding your motor with these bits,,
