What factory teams are running/testing this motor??? Are there any spec #'s available??? ie. hp and torque #'s??? I to am looking forward to seeing this motor in action... Remember, Nova still have a foot hold on the .12 nitro market, with Sirio EVO III and the OS TZ -12 putting OS back on the RC Nitro racing map again... I believe everyone here would love to see the motor and see it do well... Hype means nothing... Track facts means everything... Release date??? on track video??? Spec numbers??? These are things buyers and racers are looking and waiting for... Good luck.

Guys we're in Switzerland, we know how to work on metal and do engines also. AMGRacer, the engine has been running for a long time, every part has been designed and track tested for fine tuning. I have no doubts on it's competitivity! |

RC_Alan Dyno test results will be released shortly. We will publish our own tests and magazines will have engines to test using their equipment. We expect engines to go on sale in January or early February if there are no unforseen delays (like transport). Initial supply should be good. But like with hand wound electric motors, these engines are high end and we will not increase production at the expense of quality. All Team Orion distributors worldwide will stock the engine which means anyone can buy one regardless of their location. |
any idea what the price range is ?
thanks |
Prices are confusing with nitro engines because the discount structure is usually different than that of other hobby reated items. We expect the street price to be around $300.00 or just under.
But that can vary depending on the individual retail outlet and engine supply. |

Yes Hara will be using one in 2006.

As far as i know, this links are for the new wasp engine testing ... on a private track in europe ...
http://www.favela.com.mx/fotos/taller/wasp1.mov http://www.favela.com.mx/fotos/taller/wasp2.mov Its from a spanish forum where a couple of guys that really saw the testing captured on video ... (switzerland ?, i dont remember) ... cya ! Pat |

Sure you got the idle set high enough.... that'd anoy the crap outa me... and also bottom end sounds abit lean backing off to idle into turn...
i understand why indoor nitro racing isnt all that popular lol, imagine 8 or 10 of those things! |
I think that it's pretty hard to talk about engine settings from a video... The guy running the car knows how to set it up, it's his home track (home track as he lives in the same building). Besides with all the technical innovations in it, the engine does sound different than your regular engine when it's running.
Good news also, the engine is EFRA LEGAL, it was submitted to Franky Noens the Efra 1/10 IC track chairman and he confirmed that the Wasp Rev fulfills the requirements. Link http://www.efra.se/news/download/200...etter200mm.pdf |
I forgot where I read that.....that specific 710 with that specific engine TQ'ed and won the A main................

Maybe it is, and are we looking at a real promotional video... :D |
Looks like the power is extremely high ! The clutch setting is like for 1/8 and need to be perfect to be able to put this kind of power on the ground
|
It might be better to compare if they run that Mega engine you see on the beginning of video 2 also, just for reference of the noise in a hall.......

For the Serpent 710 do I need the Nova or Mega-Picco engine mount for the Wap rev ?

Cavalieri and Wasp REv
Ryan Cavalieri Signs!
The anticipated countdown has concluded and the big news finally revealed! Two-time and current IFMAR World 4wd Off-Road World Champion Ryan Cavalieri has signed to drive for Team Orion in 2006 and 2007! Ryan, one of the greatest young talents, will compete primarily in nitro and electric off road competition, although he will try his hand at touring cars when time permits. Team Orion’s dominant Revolution V2 modified motors will power all Cavalieri’s electric vehicles while GP3700SP2 V-Max Plus RDS competition racing cells provide maximum voltage and duration. Team Orion’s all new Wasp REV engines will power Ryan’s nitro racing vehicles. The Wasp REV’s groundbreaking technological advancements in conjunction with Ryan’s incredible driving ability will make him a favorite in every race he enters. Always very approachable, Ryan is happy to help fellow racers with their Team Orion products and anything R/C related. He will also be offering advice and answering questions on Team Orion’s Top Talk message boards. Team Orion and Ryan Cavalieri are looking forward to not only winning races, but to refining existing products and creating all-new products that offer increased performance and value |
I am not so sure all of those revolutionary engine concepts will work as well as expected,,but there will be one or two of them that will probably work well enough to incorporate.
Congrats to Team Orion for thinking outside the box! |
Wow... It's been almost 2 weeks since the last post... No release date yet??? No specs yet either??? ie. RPM, HP, torque, bore & stroke??? Orion might have a great motor but, who's going to be the 1st ginnie pig to try it out at there local track without knowing these import facts mentioned above???
Video's and eye candy are nice for those who enjoy that... But the rest of us... We want the facts before spending $250.00-300.00 dollars for a .12 nitro motor... RC_Alan |
this very true. Any Orion reps out there?
|
Just comparing .12 motors with each other as far as price is concern... Pegasus hobbies is selling the Sirio EVO III for $240.00... And pre-orders for the Orion Wasp REV .12 motor for $315.00... Now I know cost all depends on what the manufactures wants to sell there motors for... Knowing that and how strong the EVO III is... The Wasp REV .12 must be a monster of a motor... :sneaky: The count down has begun... Looking forward to seeing it in action.

Granted a sirio might be fast....but so is a os tz for 199. Then a d3R STS is 140 and is also fast. Price doesnt really stand for power.
Im sure with the orion motor you are paying for the R+D. I have a feeling its going to be a sweet motor , devastating....not sure. |

Full Size image here: http://www.pro-hobby.net/photo/showp...ze=big&cat=504 Here is the latest preview shot of the Wasp REV in the new caraction. It seems to have a number of ways to tune it. Comes with 5 carb needles and cyclinder spacing shims. As well has a venturi for the carb. Pretty much youll be able to fully change the powerband on this motor. Should be pretty cool to see how this motor does , especially with all this extra tuning that can be done with it. Hopefully this info will pop up on orions website soon. |
more tuning options isn't necessarily a good thing.. more chances to screw things up..

Usually with most crazy setups , there are a few who really sit down and figure it out for us. Hopefully that will happen with this motor. The timing shims said they can change how much power comes on and the more shims the higher the power comes later in the rev range. For the needles you can get a more progressive power (which is like thinking in multiples). Linear power is smooth , continual , straight lines. Where progressive is like an earthquake or quarter mile , growing. Where its not in steps but multiples.... I love the term progressive and linear...lol. As well as exponential. Then the venturi for the carb can give you better low-end response and a more refined moving air flow. Normally sacrificing a little overall top-end power. But usually at good sacrifice to good drivability and easier to tune sometimes. |
well they definately went in the opposite direction as say the new grp ninja wich looks to only have two needles.....
like you said it seems to be aimed at the more experienced racer and not so much the new guy on the block.. |
This looks like to be more expansive than the Mr. Ninja engine. :weird:

The engine was designed with the expert racer in mind. The best way to describe it is as a electric hand wound modified motor version of a nitro engine. One can be successful with the engine as it is out of the box. But you have access to factory tuning parts that allow very fine tuning.
A lot of options can be good and bad. Most electric racers do not buy and try all brush/compound/spring/timing combinations but there are those that want to be able to. Most however, rely on others and/or the factory to provide good set-ups for their particular application. Engines will be tested by the press very shortly. We will be posting our own dyno numbers as well. |
the same is supposed for JP FX engines and we see engines costing the half and performing even better.........

No Specs yet??? Seems very quiet... I hope the news is good....

Hey guys looks like this motor is going to be going for around $280.
|
Strainge... RC CarAtion Magazine did a somewhat detail write up on this motor in there last issue and promised in there upcoming May issue a full dyno test of the CRF Wasp REV .12... Page 78 April 2006... Checking out there website and what's in there upcoming issue, they make no metion of the dyno test or the CRF REV motor at all.... :weird: Hey... It might be in there... For those Monster truck fans.... They do have a complete write up on the Traxxas 3.3 motor... :sneaky: The picture on that page is from April 2006, but the article is for the May 2006 edition.

Funny thing happen when I picked up the May 2006 edition of RC CarAction today... The promised dyno test of this motor, the CRF Wasp Rev .12 was completely ommited from the issue... No hint or explanation as to what happen during the testing nor why the dyno test was ommited. What they did do was slop... I mean swap the engine test with a preview of the Traxxas 3.3 nitro motor... Like we really care if the N4TEC can now hit over 70 mph with there new motor... Nice upgrade through Traxxas... Getting back to the Team Orion CRF Wasp Rev .12 motor... Something must be going on with that motor :weird: ... Is it even for sell yet??? And everyone, I'm not trying to bash Team Orion or it's motor... It's just that over 6 months now, we've been seeing 1 and 2 page adds, video clips, ect... and no facts to back up any claims... Any reps from RC Car Action or Team Orion lurking around this tread should post some input as to what is going on with this motor and some true dyno info as well... Even Team Orion web-page hasn't been updated yet and there forum seems very... very quite... Again, I hope the best and only time.... A long time will tell.
RC_Alan |
I was thinking the same thing when I was browsing through here. I didn't see the thread on the first page, which is unusual for an item of new technology like the rev.
|
The engine is coming, very soon.
The engine features a lot of technical innovations which took a lot of time to perfect. It's not just another engine with some funky work on the porting. Several engines have been running almost daily at local races. Racers have been able to see it's performance and are eagerly waiting to fit one on their cars. |
