Max Power (By Massimo Fantini) either 3 port or 5 port. You can go with the basic model (called 312 and 512) based on the NS3, but with light modifications. Great motor at the price point.

You can visit www.rcmaxpower.com for more info.

if you are on a tight budget and want to get an engine that is reliable and will last a while for your $300, any novarossi based engine is good for you. the max is a very good engine. the new mega (made by pico) is a very fast engine, and the upfront cost is also good (about $260 for engine and pipe). but it will cost more to run this engine. you have to change the conrod about every gallon ($30 a conrod). the conrods to break and they can also cause internal damage to the engine, which will ruin it. also, they are having air leak issues. until they get these issues resolved, i woul go with the novarossi engine.

yes that is. actually the engine i like the best and think is the fastest is the mugen x12. it is the same thing, the novarossi rs12s3. but for whatever reason, i like the way it runs.

Remember that the Max Power engine will be faster than the X12. It has a modified crank and some other work. Also remember that the X12 is long stroke. Great for short tracks compared to a stock engine, but on a longer straight you will see the difference compared to the Max night and day.

Are you sure? Then the X12 should be the same as RRL12 engines then and not based on NS12 (short stroke)...

The Mugen X12 is not based on the RRL Novarossi engines. It is an NS12 based engine.
It is referred to as a long stroke engine because the bore (piston/sleeve diameter) is less than the stroke, in this case 13.80 mm x 14.04 mm
The RR12L engines have a 13.70 mm bore x 14.25 mm stroke, which makes this engine a longer stroke engine. As far as I know, there are no other engines like this model, except for the yet to be released new Novarossi N12LL models.

These RR12L3 or RR12L5 engines are awesome on a short track and have loads of low end torque and have been extremely reliable for me.
Another awesome engine to give consideration to is the Collari LC12 by Werks racing. This thing winds and pulls like nothing else I've tried and uses AAC construction to boot.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I guess we should use relative terminology here to differentiate them both... For me, "short" stroke always referred to the NS/NSR and the "long" stroke was always the MT12 and RRL12 engines.

Yes, I find them really reliable too. You can actually make them scream at the top too if you smoothen and alter the crankshaft window timings.

How long have you used them? Do they last?

I have the rr12l3 engine and as the posts above stated, low end acceleration is fantastic!!! I have an rs4-3 converted to just run short track parking lots. I would highly recommend this engine as once its broken in, it runs like a clock!! I run mine with no restrictor at 30% blue thunder with the #5 spark plug leaned more for low end than high. No flameouts and gets great run time.
Currently waiting for the OS 12TZ that may perform same as the rr12l3 but much cheaper...
