Hi,

I just bought a brand new Novarossi IDM engine for a VERY good price for my son as a practice engine.

I've been trying to find out on which Nova engine this one is based.
I tend to the RX 321, but I am not sure.

I would appreciate as much information about this engine as possible, so I'll know what spare parts will fit.

Also, how does this engine compare to the current breed of .21 onroad engines.

P01 sounds to me the same as the R01 so the RX21 model

I think it is in the range of the JP R01, Novamega EVO5 etc.
For today still a good engine for clublevel or spare with national racing.

I know you can messure the timings, see how far it is off from others you know and even tune it.

I did measure the timings and the engine is rather "hot".

In general it's timed more agressively than our MAX XL 7's and the current Kangoroo.

Oh, and it's a 9 port.

Performance seems to look good.

If the rod is marked with an R4 or R5 you can replace it with a R7.

The rod only has a small "R" engraved.
Can this also be replaced with the R7?

The R stands for a 5mm crankpin, so yes, it can be replaced

A simple test to be sure is take both rods, place the big-ends on a 5mm shaft and stick a 4mm shaft on the small-end, it should fit through both. So far I know since IDM was connected with Novarossi nothing was changed with the rods unless IDM had own sizes but I do not think so.
