I run mine at 0.7mm head shim just to be on the safe side. Just FYI, it you dont haev enough head clearance then it will be over compressed and you will crack your piston or suck a plug in there! |
It should have a the following in it
silver .010 shim in thousanths copper .008 shim copper .004 shim remove the .004 as you are in the midwest I believe and you will generally run a #7 plug (80 degree median temp) PS put the alumunium shim to the liner. it will be the last one to go on. |

Dennis... or anyone
What do you think (in general) about a ceramic coating on the piston of these motors? I work in a shop that builds sprint car engines and we coat the pistons in house so I can do it for free. Also we have a coating that we use on lifters etc to reduce wear... I was thinking about coating the crank pin... |
otto its all good there :)

Hi,
can anyone tell me whats the name of the red epoxy that is used in modified Engines crankshaft,,or what type of product is it....any help will be appreciated. |
roar states that you are allowed to run ceramic bearings, and that is it. no other ceramic part are allowed in an engine.

I was thinking about coating the crank pin... We tryed it in the past to use ceramic coating on sleeves and piston-didn't work as good as we have now ( AL on Chrome). Cranck pin coating might defenetly work. What is hardness of that coating? What is size of microcracks ( there will be microcracks)? How thick is coating? ( in your shop) Edward |
I would only use ceramic on the piston crown, stay away from anything on the skirts and cylinder bore. Diamondlike (the great JP,RB secret)works well on the crankpin and wristpin though you will need to resize the bushings to compensate, and teflon benefits other areas.

I had very good luck with my hardchromed crankpins so far, thanks to Edwards advise.. ;)
