Also seen some Italian shops getting back engines, pipes (like 2015) and few engines parts.
Very low amounts of those so not sure it is new stuff or if that was found sleeping behind a door.

Bought a Nova but need a pipe

They are all about the same performance...but to be honest I'd not buy a Nova now (offroad excluded) as parts will only get harder to find. Get an OS based engine for 21 onroad.

Hi guys: Not to thread jack, but are pipes a requirement? Not looking to race, but picked up a new Novarossi (rather nice one), but can't find a good pipe to go along with it.
Can you run a standard RTR pipe or you looking to damage the nice motor in the long-term without a nice pipe? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I was into
1/5 scale bikes and pipes did little to nothing.

No worries guys--I ordered a nice pipe. Answered my own stupid question myself. Carry on

In nitro engines the pipe and manifold plays a big role in performance so yes, you should buy a good pipe suitable for your engine!!

thanks for the info - if performance is the same what are the main reasons to choose one or the other and why is the Plus21 typically significantly cheaper (are their any advantages in the mito and meph over the plus)?

Noted on the potential difficulty in future parts - but my thinking was due to some of the big sales u can pick up a Nova at the moment (half the price of a new OS), I was thinking it may be kinda worth just having one to run (I’d try pick-up a rod or 2 as I come across them so I can keep it running for the future).

cheers,

friend of mine asked if the piston set can be switched with the same bore and stroke? anyone can comment please

I assume you are talking about a 35 Plus 21...basically they are just different evolutions of Nova's 9 port engine. The reality is you won't notice a significant difference on track between the 3 of them. The rods will be your biggest issue as typically Nova rods are expensive and no doubt getting harder to find (but I'm sure Max, Gimar, etc have their own stock). If you are new to IC onroad then get a cheap one and run it until the rod snaps. You'll probably stuff the P/L before that happens anyway . I know I did...lol

You mean piston in another Novarossi based sleeve?
Or a P/S set in a different engine?

Yes and no. Novarossi has various dimensions like the 2mm and 3mm lip on the sleeve and also different offsets on the ports with a matching piston but also domed/flat pistons that need to match the button head.
But Novarossi is using the same sleeve material for all their engines so yes, you can exchange pistons.

choisan 04-04-2021 03:39 AM

i am talking about the whole piston sleeve set. but after reading your info, he is not going to try swapping it, thanks

Roelof 04-04-2021 04:36 AM

Once I had a 35plus21 set to fit in a Flash, I needed to modify the sleeve so it did fit lower in the crankcase to get the right timings.

choisan 04-04-2021 08:08 AM

got it or the original sleeve is reusable and swap the piston only, right?

Roelof 04-04-2021 09:13 AM

Should also be possible but still also with pistons there are different offsets. But it is easy to check, just pin both pistons on a piston pin and look if the top edges are equal.

cool thanks for the input - yeah rather new to IC and new-ish to rc cars in general, besides some Tamiya cars when I was a kid years ago - although I’ve been watching from the fringes for a while, but finally got into it properly in the last few months.

I jumped straight in the deep end with a MRX6 and have done abt 5 track days so far - mega fun and going good but I’ve learned this hobby is 5% driving 95% knowing the technical bits.

(Btw - not sure what P/L means in your post).

Piston + Liner, could also be called Piston + Sleeve or Piston + Cylinder if you really feel like it, people will know what you mean.

Not quite sure if I agree on 5% driving + 95% tech statement though. Sure it's important to know your chassis + engine setup and it's easy to make gains with that early on. But quality track time where you're focusing on improving your driving is invaluable once you've run out of things you can blame on the car :D

Roelof 04-04-2021 01:13 PM

Even I with modifying engines, making parts on my mill/lathe and even create machines and tools do not come as low as 5% driving
