Default Can a .12 be faster than a .18 ???

Newbie question... I'm looking for a really fast motor for my 1/10 scale lightning stadium 10 4dw, while keeping things under a budget

I was going to go for an O.S. .18 CV-RX (about 28,000 RPM), since I heard great comments about it...

but then someone recommended an Ofna Hyper 12 !!! (1.4 HP and 37,500 RPM)

They both cost about the same, an the .12 has impressive numbers... but would the .12 really be faster in my truck? Perhaps I'm missing something here, but wouldn't the .18 still produce more torque and accelerate faster??
What confuses me is that the little .12 seems to produce the same or even more HP that the .18...

the .18 will most likely have more power to move the heavy stadium truck

can anyone confirm this?

The .18CV-RX is definitely a sport engine and will probably be beaten by the Hyper .12 (mainly in the rpm dept.)

Get the OS 18TZ-P if you want big power!

It's only 25 bucks more at tower and the performance difference is well worth the extra coin!!

Default .18

Mxwrench is right. I ran a revo with the 18 tz against .21 and .28 engines and they couldn't believe how much faster i was.

the answer is, it depends! I know .12's that will smoke .18's in a heartbeat.

And depending on a .21 or .28, it'll smoke the heck outta the small blocks, UNLESS, its a sport engine like much of OS's line or Toki built engines.

the .18 TZ sounds tempting...

do you think fuel consumption could be less than in the standard .18?

Problem is my tank is just 75cc so I'm afraid that a .18 will not provide lots of runtime... even with my old .15 I was wishing for a bigger tank, but I'm not sure what tank could fit in this chassis

the tz is definitely hungrier for fuel than the cv-r. Gear it right and time your pits right, you should do ok. Legally, 75cc is the limit for many 1/10 scale classes. Bigger fuel filters help gain a few seconds and maybe a lap or 2.

I've seen 18 TZ's get walked on the straight, but out of the corners it couldn't be touched.

the purpose of the .18's are for torque, and moving those heavy traxxas trucks around the track

I know it's not in a truck but here's a vid of my 18 TZ in a CD3.I haven't seen a .12 that will walk it down on topend.

A fast car or truck also has to do with handling.A good setup will out run a bad setup anyday no matter engine your running.Plus being a good driver helps too.If you can't drive the fastest engine in the world will not help you.

Thanks for the vid... that .18 you have there is one of the most powerful small blocks out there... around 2.4 HP if I remember!
I've heard comments that this one is as powerful as some .21 and 28's out there, so in a lighter 1/10 truck it should be ballistic.
I think there's even an EBMods version of the TZ!! but then that one must be just too much for my truck.

My Sirio EVO III 5 port turbo will walk a 18TZ down on top end. I know this as i do alot of R&D on engines being a modifier. When it comes to TQ the 12 cant hang.. but top end the sirio is evil! Heres a shot of a TC3 of mine with my modified .12 sirio on it. The sirio had about 4-5 mph top speed over the 18TZ via radar gun on the same gearing.
