Nova Engines
#1

I’m honestly quite curious to hear more about this new venture. Although comprised of some former Novarossi staff, their announcement speaks of “modern” machinery, so it doesn’t look like they inherited anything of the old Novarossi tooling/equipment. Makes me think they will go in a new direction design-wise, if they have nothing Novarossi related other than the talent acquired.
Anyway, it should be just a few months before they start revealing details about any engines they will be offering - anyone happen to have any inside knowledge other than what was announced?

One of the first websites displaying products from Nova that’s not just glowplugs. Looks like they have 4 different headers for onroad 21. 2 that are 90/90 and two waterfall style. Also looks like they have a pipe with the conical exhaust stinger like the Hasi tuned 2174 and with a very similar shape to the os tr02 pipe.

Any info on the Nova R9R anyone using? What is the durability of the engine?

I have a new production Nova R9R to work on. It is not the old Novarossi style sleeve with the 2 holes under the exhaust but a new type with a huge slot under the exhaust. Also all other parts looks like fresh made.
Did measure some things up the timings look a like copied from the old Ielasi 9CL and a tiny bit stretched up. It is configured to climb fast in the revs and should reach high revs with maybe a tiny loss of a smooth throttle control. The only thing I do not like is the bore of the crankshaft it is about 9.2mm while the older Novarossi was more arround 10, some even 10.5. It is not only capacity but also weight. The crankshaft has a perfect sliding fit in the bearings.

Thank Roelof for your answer, how about the quality of engines? Because I saw video on YouTube, the problem of scratches on the sleeve was described in one of Off Road engine.

The quality now is much better but I can not say about it in use.
I have to work on that engine, will make a photo shoot and will do an oil bath break in.

I can't wait to see your work, if you plan to change the engine timing?
I think I'll buy an engine, let's add some variety, not just OS and Max.

Like the OS2104WC, Crank 25/70 ports 66/92 (transfer/exhaust), some other OS based brands use a crank 23/71 (A Max Rp9.5 of 3 years ago is pretty the same timed)
Ielasi 9CL, crank 30/71, transfer 92 and exhaust 92/95 (this engine is about 7 years old)
And the Nova has 27/70, transfer ports 66 and exhaust 92/96
So yes, the Nova is close in the range of many current engines, only based on the (crank) timings the Nova comes too short to be a true toplevel competive engine. I need to check the bore of the crankshaft with OS, that I did not measure yet but I expect the OS has also a larger bore.
The needed mod is not for racing, only for drag and speedruns so what I make out of it is not interesting for racing.
