History of the Nitro Engine
Been looking online, and can't find much history on Nitro engines. Who was the first and were they originally made for R/Cs? I'm interested in the development process.

I had a fuel powered Cox dragster in 1969
powered by 0.049" Cox glow engine http://i76.servimg.com/u/f76/17/47/27/69/rights10.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox_model_engine |
how awesome that they used to start by turning the rear wheels! How did that transform to bump boxes? How great would it be if the marshal could just re-fire your car if it flamed out?

back on topic that video was a 'hoot' to watch, my how the days have changed! |
71 MPH rail cars! It worked just fine for them. Seems technology went backwards instead of forward. Maybe those cars cut out if you applied brakes? I don't know but how awesome would it be for first time Nitro users to just have to spin the tire with your hand to start the car? Man I almost quite the damn hobby as a newbie just from those damn pull starts :D
