Questions?? Metal vs Plastic spur gears??

Hi everyone, I need some advice:
I have a Savage X 4.6 and I keep stripping my spur gears. I'm on my 3rd gear in 1 week. When I change them it seems like the teeth are melted completely off. The gear mesh is perfect (at least I think) the paper test is good and there is minimal movement. I have been warned againt metal spur gears as they could cause engine damage if a stone gets caught in between. What do you think is the problem, and, should I go with metal or plastic spur gears?

A stone in the gears is not going to cause engine damage. If the thing locked up completely and you held it wide open for a minute you would totally melt the clutch but not hurt the engine.

Everything else, no idea. Never messed with a Savage.

Thanks for the reply, a metal spur gear sounds like a good option rather than replacing melted ones everytime I take it out!

It is the heat of the clutchbell, it does not get enough cooling making the plastic spur soft. It is a common thing. Just get a steel spurgear and it is gone.

Off to the hobby shop I go, in search of a metal spur gear. Thanks for the advice!
