Have you guys tried tightening the squish, or increasing the pinion gear to better use
the bottom end acceleration, and get more top end speed with less rpm?

I just purchased one from HK to see just how much improvement I can get. But I wish
the long stroke engine was available at the US warehouse.

One of the settings is a lower exhaust port automatically giving more bottom torque and a low top RPM.

Yes, more ports can give an advantage but in the basic an 3 port engine can be as fast as an 8 port engine.

Don't have a crank yet, so pin measurement will have to wait.
@ Roelof: With a 19.5mm diameter, will that cylinder fit in a Novarossi? if not
what engine were you thinking about.

I did remove the copper shim on the stock engine and it yielded a slight increase in RPM, but it made the tuning window narrower and the engine ran a bit hotter. Not a huge issue for me, but not recommended for a novice.

The increased crank window timing and exhaust port timing made the biggest difference over stock. I think I am well over 6 gallons at this point and it still runs like a champ. Very little slop in the con-rod and the compression is still good; not great but serviceable. Will probably need a pinch in the near future and maybe a new rear bearing.

When I run it back to back with one of my CRE Werks B2's (also a 3 port; albeit heavily modified), it clearly lags in performance and looks like a $60 engine. But as I have said, it really is a perfect practice engine. Allows me to focus on my chassis setups on long practice days without burning up a quality engine.

I think I can make the AEG "on road" long stroke engine into a nice little club racer...

So this thing is still actually decent? I know I just became that guy who doesn't read the thread but I want to make sure.

If you don't mind, what glow plug and nitro percentage do you run.

Do you think it will run decent (for practice) on 10%?

Current plug is one of the new OD V2 plugs. Prior was a Werks #6. I run 30% Bones Brew with 8% oil.

10% oil should be fine in a 20 or 30% nitro fuel.

Most Novarossi sleeves are also 19.5mm but I have heard some offroad models do use 19.2 as well. If the pistonpin is 4mm you can use a Novarossi rod. The only thing is to measure the depth of the ports but mostly that is no problem with maybe adding some shims.

The engine I just received from the US warehouse came with a completely
different cylinder, the crank has a labyrinth seal, and some pinch.

However, the block was not modified for the new cylinder.

I will post pics later.

Here is a pic of the ones I just recieved today. I ordered these with the 3 needle carb and coated crank.

Looks nice, like the idle adjustment better on it for sure.

I'm going to buy one of these and win with it in my 6year old tamiya truggy with duratrax tires and laugh my nuts off.

Almost won last week but ran out of fuel in the 8 year old generic .27 with a minute to go

The driver is the most important factor in winning races.

Any reccomendations for a cheap pipe which works good with this engine?

Also, the motor 22Racer has on the pictures has a different carburettor to the one shown on the HK website. What do you get when you order?
