I put a P5/421 carb on Tanner's Alpha. Fit fine and power actually went up with a smaller restrictor.

Monty if you can get him a P5 carb or 21-4 carb he will be fine....

PM me your address and I'll send you an o-ring kit which includes the boot and every seal needed for that carb. I suggest change the orings 1st. If no one has had the carb out of the engine pull it and see what the oring in the crankcase looks like I bet you have more air leaks than the pin hole in the boot.

i had the exact same issue when i switched to Alphas, all it is the high speed needle o-rings, you need 2 o-rings on it ... or what do what i did and take the whole high speed needle off a nova carb and problem was fixed, i didnt tune it for weeks and weeks. Nova high speed needle is far better than the Alpha one. nova carb also works well, but IMO the Alpha carb with the Nova high speed needle is the perfect mach

My Z852's HSN was backing out on me and causing a simular issue as you described. Doubled up the o-rings and problem solved...

If that orion carb is one of the LM (star, sirio, werks, etc.) built orion's, the carb should fit. The older ones were Picco and wont work.

Nova and OS should also fit. Yes, a new Nova carb is pricey but there are people with a dozen of them laying around. I've run ones that sat for years and they were fine so the seals don't seem to dry rot easily. So if the Orion one doesn't work out, give Monty a call or put a post in the wanted section. I guarantee you someone will hook you up for just a few dollars.

im about 99% sure its the carb. I am no tech junkie when it comes to RC cars but I am when it comes to motorcycles and real cars so some of the stuff translates over and I think its the carb personally. Also a handful of people at the track this weekend including 2 professionals both looked at it and thought it was the carb as well.

I've had similar issues and replaced the seals, problem solved.

I know a few guys who use PTFE tape on the HSN too. This stops it from backing out and seals it real good. My next job when I can be bothered

O-Rings solved my issues as well with loose needles. I got some O-Rings from Home Depot though since the carb kits weren't in stock yet. So $1.93 later....the S852 was tuning perfectly again ;-)
