If the bearing is seeping a little after a run (especially if you are running rich) it's probably ok. If the front of the motor is covered in oil and dirt as well as the underside, then you may have a leak. A leaking front bearing won't make your engine sound blubbery, it will make it sound really lean - because it is. Air leaking in through the bearing makes your mixture lean, and your motor run hot. Normally this is signified by a fast pulsing, high revving combination when you come to an idle (machine gunning it's called). Rule of thumb would be: If the motor is at idle and then starts to pulse up in revs quite high and erratic - you have an air leak (or you are way too lean somewhere). If the motor comes in reving high and then drops suddenly after 10 seconds or so, you are too rich on the bottom end and your idle gap is too wide. This normally results in your top end being very lean too (in order for the motor to run like this). The motor will run ok, but at WOT you will be too lean, resulting in blown plugs and maybe engine damage if you are running really hard. |

There are a number of tutorials on YouTube. Here is a two part tutorial. You can search for others.

Yep Grizz, your last statement pretty much describes what was happening to mine.

Round #1 of Northeast Pro Series was run on 6/24. CRC built a new track for the Pro Series race. Tires of choice for the new track were the VP Pro Turbo Trax in Ultra Flexx compound using VP Pro wheels. The ZX-1.5R buggy felt great. The track is very technical and set-up is critical. After a few practice rounds I was getting more familiar with the layout and a few adjustments to the car made it perfect.
Round #1 I qualified 3rd overall. Round #2 I qualified #2. Round #3 I qualified #1 just missing the elusive 10 lap run. Round #4 I qualified #2 to lock up the TQ. The car was getting faster every run. I stayed with the Turbo Trax for the main. During the warm up for the Main my car had an issue with the rear drive shaft coming loose and lost the support bearing. My pit guy and I worked hard to get it back together, but I started 3 laps down. We got it fixed and went back out. I worked my way nack up tp 6th, when I got clipped by another driver and landed funny on a landing jump. I snapped my front arm. A disappointing finish, but I was happy with the TQ. The GO GX-5R Engine had tons of power with no issues. Running temps were low all weekend using S&W Fuel Trophy Blend 30%. It was a great day for Caster Racing USA, GO Engines USA, S&W Fuels, and VP Pro tires. Next race is in Rome, NY on 7/21. |

What size front bearing for the GX-II? Is the stock bearing as good as the many after market brands?
