Yea, Id kinda like to see what it does with the 0801 also........

well if you're pipe testing i'd be interested in seeing a JP4 graph :)

i finally got round to trying my Argus this weekend
i was sent it in January & was a bit sceptical about running a cheap engine as like most people i generally prefer to stick to a proven brand.

my modified Speedy Reedy (Reedy with OS Speed internals) finally died this weekend & i needed to run something in between rounds & get back out there.
i had the only JQ engine in the UK in my box but wanted to spend time running that in properly so decided to chuck the Argus in & get it out there!
it was on the track on its third tank & it was going pretty well for the warmup & first 3 minutes of the run but after it got hot it was leaning out & stopped 3 times at the bottom of the straight. i knew it was a bit soon for this engine but was pretty impressed so far.
we put a few more tanks through on the box & ran a couple in the carpark before firing up the BBQ & getting drunk.
anyway next morning i ran another half tank through & was out on the track, stopped again after the straight so we upped the idle a little to help it keep going. after this i ran a 20 mintefinal & lapped everyone up to 2nd place then bumped into the next where i got a bit battered in the early laps which i never seemed to recover from but the engine ran strong. as fast as anything else down the straight with enough punch to get over everything i needed to.
once properly run in this engine will be great, it still has a squeak at TDC now so it needs more fuel. not many engines cope so well with a rushed introduction to the track and it looks like there will be more to come once the pinch goes a bit. :D
my buddy Bryan has been running one all year & he loves his & i now see why he kept telling me to get mine in there
definitely impressed with these engines & i'll definitely get another

i fitted the JP4 pipe to mine which seemed pretty good, had power everywhere & sounded good too. i could even hear it from the back section of the track which i couldn't do before with the OS & 2050 combo!

anyone else loving the JP4 on this engine?

I have tried the 3033 and JP4 on my Argus'. I have now reverted to the JP4 in both truggy and buggy. It gives so much bottom end that I am able to run an extra tooth on the CB to smooth it out (now giving mental top end also).
With the JP4 I can get a comfortable 11 minutes on almost any track (usually closer to 12mins). So for the price I will not hesitate to pick up another one. Great engine/pipe combo for power and runtime.

Jeeze you guys are making me waver on pipes yet again.. ;) Still got the JP-4 strapped to it, but still doing break-in.. Raced my buggy last weekend, so didn't mess with the Argus in the SC8. My goal is to have it broken in and drop it in the buggy for the next race in three weeks though.. Guess I'll leave the JP-4 for a few more tanks til I get the chance to get on it a bit..

Unfortunately I've only really tried the JP-4 on a Mach 427 in my DM-1 onroader, and frankly thought it sucked. I have a Go 2047 on the same engine in my SC8, and the engine with that pipe RRRRRRIIIIPPPPSSSSS.... Great sound too.. Still, tough comparison with such totally different cars.. The Mach and JP-4 though were not cutting it in the DM-1..

I have mentioned in previous posts that I run this engine (A52) with a Dynamite platinum EFRA 2081. I am getting close to 13 min per tank with plenty of bottom end and ballistic top end. This exhaust is inexpensive compare to the other ones out there. I have a Werks 2058 that I am running it with a B6 and to tell you the truth I’m not sure I can tell the difference between the two mufflers. That is how close they are, for me anyway. The Dynamite is only $56 at amain. I am surprised nobody else is using this muffler.

I run that same pipe and it's been working like a charm! Bottom, mid, and top end are all great!

Is it 2081 pipe?;)

im pretty positive it is...

Rcrenew 09-01-2011 10:36 AM

They are similar but not exactly the same the Dynamite is a copy of the A-plus 2081 and the internal baffling, divergent cone etc.. On copy pipes some times are different. So even if the pipe has the same number and the outside looks the same its all about the internals that make a pipe what it is .

I thought the dynamite was exact as well but then I ran the 2 pipes and noticed more midrange and top end with the A-Plus pipe vs the dynamite. Also engine temps seem to run a bit hotter with the dynamite? It does work pretty good though.

I still Preferr the F-0801 and 3033 But the 2081 is still a good choice

Good to know Lance about the Dynamite 2081 pipe. I assume the reason the Dynamite is not identical to the A-pluss is mostly due to the money difference as well as who makes it.

So what is the difference between the F-0801, 3033, and the 2081? Low end, vs. mid, vs. high end, vs. fuel consumption?

Could you explain please? I want to see if it is worth it for me to spend the extra $$$ and buy the other mufflers.

Thanks,
Eric

This is from my experience and testing.

A-Plus 2081 A lot of very punchy bottom end and good top end. good runtimes. A little less than the other 2 pipes

Aplus F-0801 A lot of bottom same as 2081 but very smooth and powerful xlnt top end and runtimes. I like this pipe best for truggy because of it punchy yet smooth bottom , great top end and fuel mileage.

Sh 3033 Good bottom end very smooth and linear feel the best top end of the pipes and xlnt fuel mileage comparable to the F-0801. I loke this pipe in buggy best as it is smoother on bottom and very controllable and the runtimes are xlnt.

Heres my opinion from first being best in order

Summary :

Smoothest - 3033, F-0801, 2081
Best mileage- Draw F-0801 & 3033, then 2081

Best top end - 3033,F-0801, 2081
Best bottom - 2081 and f-0801,3033
(though bottom is almost a draw between the 2081 and F-0801 very close)

Well I just put tanks 5-7 through with the JP-4, and started getting on it a bit. Impression - good punch down low, the tank takes forever to finish, it lacks top end, and the sound is not that impressive. Probably more a pipe for competitive racers who really care about run-time and a tamed-down power curve.. Am running an RT clutch with carbon shoes, and am surprised how responsive it is. Nice punch from a stop. But top-end - not that I was letting it scream much, seems like it's just not going to be there witht he JP-4. So next pipe to test will be my fave pipe so far on other engines - the 2063.

The engine does seem pretty easy to tune btw too. Just curious - does that old rule of thumb still apply - do some high speed passes, take the temp, wait 10 seconds at idle, and the temp should go down 10 degress or so??..

supercross 09-03-2011 10:15 AM

the JP4 has plenty for what i need.
btw i'm running THE car which is very light & responsive anyway so if you're using it in a Truggy then yeah you might want a different delivery

This is what tank #6 or so looked like:

My mom gave me her Flip video this summer - impressed with the quality..

v6shooter 09-03-2011 07:09 PM

dont worry about power intill 12 to 15 tanks the engine really need a gallon before the power is mostly there:nod: longer the break in the long the engine will last.
