OK, I just checked. Shipping on the engine to the US is $20 or $25 for Express Mail. Not too bad coming from Hong Kong. Certainly would still save a LOT of money on the engine over amains price.

I know about the speed and that is a great price. But its not a new engine on the market.
What is that engine by RB starts with a T?

Oh they are awesome engines for sure. I just mean if I can race and be on par with the faster guys running Speeds...with a $200 engine....then why do I need a $500 engine? I can buy 2.5 $200 engines for the same $500. The Speed is a LOT more of an engine....but how much is enough to get the job done?

Unless you are a big name fast guy....or a fast guy that finishes right behind the big name fast guys....it won't give you the magical 6 seconds a lap boost you need to run with them. You still need to drive the rig yourself ;-)

Not cracking on the OS Speed one bit though....if I could afford one...or if I was given one to run....I'd run the crap out of it until it won't run no more! lol

Budget racing won't allow me to run a Speed though...so while I have driven a few friends rigs with Speeds in them...I won't be buying one anytime soon. The funny thing is my $200 Alpha is neck and neck with the fastest engines at our local track.....now if I can just get my driving skills up higher...I'll be all set!

The last two motors I have had were a v-spec and a b5. b5 has already ran longer than the v-spec before the v-spec needed some refreshing and shows no sign of weakening. By this time, my v-spec had leaking bearings, an ovaled crank pin, and next to nothing for pinch (needed a re-pinch). I've ran a b5 and v-spec back to back in my own car and used the same fuel in both. B5 is hands down a better value and better motor -- it's tougher (lasts longer), makes more torque, pulls just as hard, and gets better fuel economy. Also, they don't round crank pins off like OS motors that don't have the magic pin coating.

I liked my v-spec, a lot -- but the b5 is better, and cheaper. People who fear 'getting what you pay for' are used to spending too much for motors. I pickup full size car motors for $500 bucks that last 75k miles -- expecting to pay $500 for a 2.5 hp motor that lasts 4-8 gallons is an an exercise in not realizing when you're being taken for a ride and paying for a name.

I have been running the V-spec engines for the past two years. 3 weeks ago I thought I would like to try something different on my buggy. I grabbed the Dynamite red head .21 for $100. Ok, so I'm thinking this thing will be a joke. I honest to God love this little engine. The power is impressive but yet smooth unlike the V-spec. I was in total control of my buggy with less over driving and the fuel economy wasn't all that bad matched up with the Jp-4 pipe. The idle is great and the tune is a breeze.
For this money, How could I go wrong. Ok, let's say 4 gallons and she is junk. Throw it in the junk pile and get another or rebuild it for near nothing. For club racing, has our way of thinking declined us into thinking that money wins us races ?
I can get any engine I want so that issue isn't worth bringing up, but I'm starting to think that expensive isn't always the way to go.

I couldn't agree more.

There are several engines that have more raw power than the speed but they are not as smooth and they do not get the mileage that the speed does. I had a powerhouse modded toro that definatly out does the speed in hp but it was like comparing a balls out corvette against a ferrari. Depends on what you like and what your style is.

Guys just because it cost more doesn't mean it's better !! Frankies modded speeds still runs behind my 10 gal plus GRP !! true story !! Lutz just put the 200.00 Alpha in the 5th spot at the Nats ... Sorry Frankie LOL!!! You can have a million dollar engine ,,, you still have to drive it !! Alpha engines look to be one of the best $200.00 engines out there ,,,,

I completely understand your point of view. The Speed is far from a budget engine. There are a lot of very impressive engines out there in the $200 range these days. To me it is more of a feel thing. The OS just has "that feel" that fits me and my driving style. My truggy just seems to love the Speed. I'm noticeably faster with the speed in my truggy Vs. other engines. To me that's what justifies the price tag. The insane fuel mileage is a nice bonus too.
