as far as strength go's tungsten is in a class of it's own. It is the highest stength element followed by the highest quality carbon steel (tungsten is heavier). People get titanium confused as the strongest metal. Strong yes, but the hardest no. it's not even as hard and strong as carbon steel. It has the highest strength to weight ratio of all the metals. Besides a crank pin weights nothing anyway. the only problem i really see is the balance of the crank, but i would imagine someone could work that out.

also tungsten has the highest melting point of all the metals as well (think filaments in your light bulb). They have to Carry special tools at my job just to cut tungsten in case of emergency (tungsten wedding bands).


might not be good for crank pin's. But i would like to know what happens when you get a crank pin made of one.

Might last 50 gallons, and what company wants that?

Your missing the point. the bronze bushings are for smoothness and absorb oil to lubricate the friction on the crank, and wristpin. The bushings are smoother than two harder metals grinding and galing. titanium is strong and flexable but wears fast in friction areas, like hinge pins...You need a softer metal against the hard steel....If you have problems then I suggest running 25% fuel with at least 12% oil. you can add caster oil to fuel if you measure it correctly. I add 28ml to a gallon of 25% Byrons 11% oil. This adds like 1/2 of a percent I think. Just enough to help out, without changing the performance.....Your oilite bushings will love you.....Your starter box motors use them, do you remember to oil them too....

+1 on alpha engine. had a blue head vspec before alpha and the green head alpha is just as powerful. i killed it this weekend running a filter that was oiled 2 weeks before and dried out. let dust go through it and killed the engine. i will be buying another alpha. but i allso race on a budget and not in the pro ranks. but will hang with the engines and racers i race against. verry impressed.

If you're only getting 4 gallons out of a v-spec something is wrong. They're not the longest lasting engine by any means, but they're an easy 8 gallon engine. tune it right and I guarantee it will go 8+ gallons. I've had one go 11.;)

Look into the alpha orange head more bang for the buck. Ive run the B5 and this has more bottom and top. Powerbands a little different so you kinda have to drive it differently.
