as of latley my engines are getting MORE milage then before seems like the more fuel the better they run at 6 with b6 and 5 with b5....last weekend I pitted at 10 in both buggy and truggy...could have pitted at 11 with both and not even though twice about it...but milage has alot to do with air, tune, clutch, wheel spin, throttle control, etc etc etc...

Is Kortz using a B5 or a B6 at the worlds?

BSchorr 10-09-2010 11:33 PM

Most likely the B6 since its a big track!

Motors get better mileage as they break in more also.

blktransam 10-10-2010 08:18 AM

schorr- this is true..but I have never had better milage at 6 gallons then I did at 2-3 before...lol...engines are pretty much broke in by 1-1.5 gallon(s) but anyhow none the less I am happy with my werks mills

I run the Werks B5 from Clockwork Racing Engines. 10 minute pit stops at 220 degrees. What's not to like?

Kortz with an orange chassis hyper 9???

Its a Special 1 off for Jeremy, The milled out pockets are what is orange and the rest of the Chassis is the regular gun metal or greyish color....he was chassis testing both his production units, Special 1 offs from Hobao and Robert's chassis.

I'm looking at this engine (Werks B6) and I have a few questions about it.

First of all, I'm running an Inferno GT (Buggie based) that weighs in at 3500 grams. I'm currently running a Werks B7 .28 pro that I purchased used. It' has tons of bottom end (probably to much). and I'm looking for something with a smoother power band, like the B6's are described. I've had good results with the engine and am leaning at staying with the Werks engines if they will meet my needs.

1. I've been told the the .21 engines just don't have the bottom end to get the car moving quickly.

2. does running a .21 in a heavier car put any more stress on the engine components causing them to fail?

What do you guys think?

21's have plenty of bottom end, but it is engine dependent. Have you tried gearing to smooth it out, ie. raise the clutchbell 1 or 2 teeth. If the bottom is too much you can also change the feel w/ your clutch setup....lighter springs, carbon shoes, etc. Have you seen the new Werks Pro Clutch?

The B6 powerband is smooth, but coming from a 28 you may not like the feel of linear power. I'd think a B5 may be a better middle ground between the grunt of the 28 and the ultra smoothness of the B6. And once again, playing with your clutch setup and gearing will fine tune to the feeling your looking for.

Hope this helps...

Marshon had some good input on this and what I would recommend in your application is going with a B5 combined with the 2013 pipe set. This is going to cover you pretty well on power across the board!

Thanks for the reply. I have done what I can to help with the torque. I am running a 3 shoe clutch with soft springs, carbon shoes for earlier engagement of the clutch and I am running with the highest gearing that will fit (44/48 on the 2 speed, 17/21 on the Bell). I have to ease onto the throttle when coming out of the corners, and especially careful when adding any throttle while in a sweeping corner to not break traction. If I roll onto the throttle it handles very well, but if I get carried away it will spinout.

I actually like this engine a lot and would purchase a new one if they were available, however Werks have discontinued the .28 size. Hence why I was asking about the .21 B6.

What is the biggest difference between the B5 and B6? From what I have read it’s more about the smoothness of the powerband. I’m not one who uses full throttle unless needed and tend to use the full range of the throttle, this is what led me to think the B6 is the right choice.

The biggest difference between the two is the amount of torque that they produce. Your vehicle is not really a spring chicken if you know what I mean(;-) so it is packing some pounds around which is shy I suggested the B5 combo. The extra torque will help you get around a bit.

Interesting ..... I just myself went from a B6 to a B5 in a DM-1S IGT car last weekend.. the B5 is much better in the car than the B6 was for me. Not to say the B6 was a slouch cause it wasnt by any means but with the B5 I dont have to worry about the guy behind me with a .28 getting the jump on me and having to run him down at the other end or having to drive defensively sometimes..........Its plenty fast on top tooo...:nod:
