The R5T and R5T-TE are pretty much the same engine, except the upgrades in the Team and being hand built by Mario himself. Having said that, the 2104 has been favored by a lot of drivers I speak to. I ran the 2099 in buggy for a while and was going back and forth between that and the 2104. I settled on the 2014 because it provided plenty of power and seems to have a little more run time over the 2099. However, in Truggy I run the 2099/S

Maybe some other drivers will chime in.

I agree with modhobby. I have the r5 r5t and r5te and the 2069 2099 and 2104 pipes on a buggy the 2104 gives me the perfect amount of power I need on the r5te to make the power usable and fuel economy is best of all 3 pipes. The 2099 on the buggy to me seems like it gave my buggy a little more bottom then the 2104 but to me seems like the 2104 has a better power curve and better fuel economy then the 2099. I like the 2069 on the truggy personally but it can use the extra power.

I have the r5 r5t and r5te and I can say the r5 and r5t are very similar almost not really worth buying the teand iI have the 2069 2099 and 2104 pipes. I love the 2069 on truggy but on the buggy I like the 2104 best. Seems to me like the 2099 has a little bit of a stronger bottom end then the 2104 but to me the 2104 has the smoothest powerband that suits me better. My lap times dropped 1sec consistently with that pipe but that's just my preference. And fuel economy seems a tad better with the 2104. Everyone is different though so what works for me may not for you.

Default Reds Pipe

I have been running Reds R5 and R5T in my ST-RR for the last year. The exhaust system I am using is the short header with the 2069 pipe and I have been very satisfied with the performance and run time of these engines with this exhaust system.

Today I decided to try the 2099 pipe with the short header and WOW did it make a huge difference in performance both a low and high RPMs. The 2099 gave me electric car type of low end torque and the top speed was higher too probably because the increased torque improved the rate of acceleration. The car was easier to drive and my qualifying performance improved due to fewer mistakes on my part.

I didn't get to determine the engine run time but in the main I pitted at the 10 minute mark and there was still a good bit of fuel in the frank.

If you are running a 2069 you really need to try the 2099.

Can you tell me more about the standard R5? Is it a powerhouse? (considering getting one - but only the R5)

Cody king runs the R5C, which is a standard R5 with a ceramic bearing - in truggy.

I really like the standard R5. To me, it's power is more linear than the others so consistent with a lot of low end snap. The fuel mileage should be better with the tuned engines though.

I raced for the first time yesterday with a R5 and a werks 2013 pipe in Truggy(didnt have a reds pipe on hand) I loved it. Had plenty of pop and all the power it was making was usuable from down low to top end. Very smooth engine. With the 2013 pipe though the fuel mileage was terrible so I will be picking up a Reds 2099 pipe and XS header.

Default FRC 1/8 Shootout

REDS had a great showing this past weekend at the Flowood R/C 1/8 Shootout. I got the win with Greg Gatewood taking TQ and 2nd.

I ran the R5 with a XS manifold and 2099 pipe. Power was always on tap. Run time could have been better, but that's what the Team Edition is for.

Pay no attention to the body. It's a loaner.
