The Tecno does resemble the GRP's and the TQ engines. GRP is no longer as you know, the TQ engine is made for TQ by Tecno. Do they look similar? Yes, but the Tecno makes much better power than the GRP or TQ. The Rody tuned Tecno was just released and should be here in the US before too much longer, as well as the .23 engine for truggy. I know I am excited to get a hold of that tuned engine!!!

Just knowing Rody is the kind of person that always wants to improve an already good thing makes these engines VERY interesting IMO.

Similar yes, same? no, Chris is right the engines have been tweaked to Rody's liking (and our) :)

Tony, by chance have you run the heavier duty HIPEX 2069 pipe? I located one hidden on your site though it looked to have an onroad header with it.

The stinger reinforcement and likely thicker walls have to be great for offroad...I cannot see how performance would suffer that much. I sure hate to go back to the days of the thin wall Italian pipes.

Going to give the Tecno a try in my MBX6T.

Thanks,
Scott

Well guy wish me luck im head to the Rc Pro International Finals tomorrow. The engines are running great couldnt ask for anything more out of them other then a great showing for Tony and the Team.

Yo, I have not heard anything about a tuned .23 coming but there is a .23 coming for truck. I have been running just the standard .21 the last few weeks and the thing has been running great!!! Worx ran his standard .21 last weekend, and it only had 5 tanks on the bench before practice started. He had zero issues with it and even that new it made great power.

My bad, I read a previous post wrong about the tuned .23...... Well let me know when they are available. Dont know if I can pick up two, as this is a big rebuild year for me. But I will run that in the truggy. I really like the MR BO1 Ninja. I heard that you have the engine running over the weekend.

The Hipex 2069 is pretty thick, I've yet to dent one. The pipe your speaking of with the onroad header is the same pipe. These are nothing like the old thin 086 or 053, I remember literally running one lap years ago in practice and changing something on the car and the pipe was dented already! Not these :) I have one with 8+ gallons of racing and not a single dent

Thanks for the response, Tony. One of them, I believe HIPEX refers to it as the 'Strada' heavy duty pipe has the reinforced stinger. Here are the pics I borrowed from your distributor site.

Also, I checked your online distributors and nobody has the 2069 on their website. Know anyone who might have one in stock?

Tony Newland 10-26-2010 09:49 AM

I see what your looking at now... sorry

they all have a HD stinger.... the onroad pipe has a gusset. The std pipe is sleeved so its twice as thick as usual. I havent had any issues, and havent heard of others bending the stinger

Thanks Tony, Lets see what happens ill keep everyone posted.

nascarracer 10-26-2010 02:09 PM

I watched a couple of these engines run this weekend up at the mapston in spokane wa. and they looked very strong. I can't wait to get one.Lee

Noticed the TP manual recommends adding a .10 shim if running 30%. Is this a necessity or just preferred to ease the break-in process?

i did not put a shim in for break in.. it stalled "once" in the galloon or so for break in.. very easy but long break in period... i still have not put the shim in.. engine has slight pinch yet at 1 3/4 gallon.. almost fully ready to run..

Tony Newland 10-30-2010 10:13 PM

I wouldnt add any shims for 30%, I've actually removed the copper shim in some cases at higher elevations without any problems. If you try it check your plug regularly for detonation.

Head clearance should be around .024 with all shims and .021 without the copper..... plenty of clearance for 30%

scrapsz 11-01-2010 05:40 AM

Thanks folks...I am going to start my break-in on Wednesday after work.

Sounds like the TP break-in resembles that of the older RB's...2 gals before they were truly run in and ready to race tune.

Chris Peralta 11-01-2010 07:40 AM

I would say the breakin is very similar to an RB breakin. I am now just over the 2 gallon mark on mine and it is really waking up. The engine has made great bottom end power all along but now it is really stretching it's legs on the straights too. I was doing timed runs this past weekend and every time I was running out of gas at 11:30 with an 8mm restrictor in buggy.

Tony Newland 11-01-2010 08:53 AM

Exactly, we've found between 1-2 gallons is average. This guy just finished break-in

Are Potsie and Malf done with theirs yet?

 I guess that shows my age since I remember watching happy days every night

losiracer78 11-01-2010 12:19 PM

Tony the engine ran great at the Rc Pro Finals. I couldnt have asked for a better engine in my car. But could of asked for a better weekend of racing for sure.

scottike 11-01-2010 01:05 PM

ready to make change

Team Hawk,,,out of Nashville TN, Driver Ike Hawkersmith is ready to try the new TecnoPower Truggy engine. My problem is I can't find the .23....I have located the B01T-21 however I am leaning towards the .23..We run Losi Trucks and run big tracks...Ky, Tn, Ala, Miss, La,Ga, MO and Ind....I am looking to buy 2 engines........

Chris Peralta 11-01-2010 01:16 PM

The .23's are on their way to the US. Tony might be able to give you dates but I know it should not be too much longer.

scottike 11-01-2010 02:42 PM

sweet

That sounds good....I did find where I could buy however the cost was almost double......Scott

J.Whiting 11-01-2010 08:36 PM

last i heard from tony was late this week early next week on the tuned .21 and truggy .23's.. looking to get a tuned 21 and a 23 also when they show up. jeremy

Thats great news..... The engines should be solid for ya, now to fix some bad luck? I'm affraid rabbits feet are on backorder :)

The tuned and truggy engines will be here mid next week depending on customs. We should have some in stock after pre-orders are filled :)

plug options

Hello to everybody, is there any other brand-type of plugs recommended for this engine??
BTW the engine it's great!

motomatt 11-04-2010 07:22 PM

Reason to use only TecnoPower glow plugs

Here ya go

cartodinamo 11-05-2010 08:07 AM

thanks, I think have to put my OS P3's on a shelf for a while....

Tony Newland 11-05-2010 10:08 AM

We tested other plugs for a few days when we first got the engines to check compatibility and found none ran as good as the Tecno's. This isnt a sales pitch, I ran the P3 for an entire weekend and struggled with low end response and idle quality. We dropped an H6 back in and cleared everything up. You can run some of the other plugs, it will run, but not nearly as responsive and reliable as OEM.

Roelof 11-05-2010 11:43 AM

We have seen a better response with these plugs:

Tony Newland 11-05-2010 02:48 PM

Hmm never heard of them.... no heat comparison chart for turbo plugs either. No pictures of their products or much information at all.

motomatt 11-05-2010 06:34 PM

I met the man at the I-Hobby Expo a couple years ago. His name's not Merlin. But I'll be jiggered if I can remember it.
He stated that he had manufactured plugs for Traxxas for a time.
He was quite friendly and willing to discuss his product in detail.

Tony,

Have you tried the 21BT yet?

I have heat cycled 21BT with 6 tanks on the box and 3 on the deck, not come alive yet, however wondered if you had run one in yet.

For some reason it kept on cutting, probably too rich, however going to run the 21B tomorrow as its had about 3/4 gallons and is really coming to life.

We are racing on this track tomorrow;
maxbashing.com/mbforum/showthread.php?t=11215[/url]

and want to take my time with the BT as I recon it will be special.

There is only one other brand having plugs with a color code and that is o'Donnell so I suspect both are made at the same company.

Rjgreen take your time your looking at a min of a gal for break-in. I have little over 1.5 gals on one engine and I still cant turn it over by hand when cold. Take you time and your engine should last you a good while
