Just purchased a p5xlt with 2.5 gallons and a dynamite pipe. Not sure what to expect from this combo but the price was right. Anyone have this? Average life span of this engine? Hoping there's a little more bottom end power compared to my current arrow gtr.

No such thing as average lifespan. Depends on the variables, the main one being you. Or in your case with a used engine, also the previous owner.

Dynamite pipes are good, surely more bottom than arrow gtr. Hope it is 053 Dynamite pipe.

I mean, with proper care I'm assuming I'll get a season out of this (2 more gallons). Or is it common to get 6-8 gallons out of an engine? I've no idea how often people replace their engine

Nope it's an 086 dynamite pipe. Thanks for the heads up, I'll know my first change if I can't make the double right after the 180 corner.

you never see a 2nd hand engine listed as having ran more than 1-2 gallons.
Meanwhile, nobody ever sells a 2nd hand engine unless:
1. it doesn't run as it should
2. it didn't perform
3. it is worn out
4. something's wrong with it

So buying a 2nd hand engine, in my opinion, should only be done if you can pay a price that is based on parts value, really.

I agree with this mostly and what you are saying is true for prob 95% of the time but not always, sometimes you may find genuine second hand engines but they are few and far between, in saying that I agree with this and I prefer to stay away from any used engine unless I know the motors history first hand, I've seen way too many people advertise brand new that's been used once or twice so 2gallons is more than likely 10-15. Hopefully you got it at a really good price like literally a throw away price esp with the deals going on with novas at the moment.

Was after a few new servos and couldn't resist adding it to my purchase. Shipping (duty fees) to canada is stupid. the price was 100 with pipe and have been throwing around the idea of purchasing a new engine. O well,, run hard.. Maybe she blows?? Maybe she Goes!!)

Just think, you could have paid $20 more and got it brand new with a pipe; the Elite 5 is the same motor.

You can buy a good used engine. Not everyone is a crook. i have sold 3 used engines that ran for gallons afterwards. And not for any reasons above. You do need to be careful and understand the risk. I have a used engine now that I am going through. I know it needs bearings. Gonna take the crank from another engine I have and watch people reactions. Because this engine don't go like this one will. :) Then put another crank in another used engine I have and it will be a beast.

I concur. I've bought a couple used motors, and was pleased with the result. The FS add also included pictures of the motor completely broken down, as well.

Not every 2nd hand engine is bad, just buy from seller with good records n honest so u get what as it described

That's easier said than done..

My record with buying used engines is about the same as with used kits - 50/50... So in my experience it's a crapshoot..
