So what is the ideal/safe temp for a Bonito? with about 1 gallon?

I have no desire to discredit anyone else...what someone else believes has no relevance whatsoever to my own findings..... I have most definitely tested several stock engines...as I already said, every engine is different... I gave a case study of a Clocked Bonito....as that was the engine we did the most in depth testing with......I do not see anywhere that I am discrediting anyone else....If their view doesn't match my own its not my fault , And I do not believe I should feel obligated to withhold my experiences because it doesn't agree with popular belief.....Sorry dude, but if anything you guys are the ones trying to discredit me, not the other way around......It doesn't bother me much what other people are doing, Someone asked in the thread what filling a crank does, I answered...then pretty much got told I was missing the boat, so I came back and clarified why I said what I said about crank filler being overrated ..... its nothing personal, nor a knock at anyone else...I just happen not to agree with popular belief is all ! |

Hope this helps I've had other local racers ask me about using OS plugs in Nova engines. I prefer to keep plugs and engine brands in sync, though I do understand folks may have existing stock of one brand plug on hand. Thanks and good luck at the Nitro Challenge! |

Glad you and Neal touch pepes enough that you feel you need to stick up for him
I was simply replying to this statement in Monty's post, as I felt it was probably meant for me.... i have met well educated people in all different fields who thought they were the masters of what they studied in miss even the simplest of things looking a project over because they were too concentrated on the "deeply technical" aspect of the job I am not offended or looking for a fight, nor am looking to discredit anyone...Just wanted to clarify that I wasn't talking out of my arse, that I actually did this specific testing, and I was not blinded by more technical matters...I specifically tested filled vs non filled on a Bonito ! |

Still waiting on your findings from your tests...Classy. |
I was asking questions to Maximo. Which he answered, thank you Neal!!!
My findings... You like to but your way into something that never involved you. Pat yourself on the back!! |

I can respect what your saying..;) so don't sweat it any... I basically felt I was being told that I couldn't see the forest for the trees, so I figured I would elaborate a bit more on why I originally said what I said...nothing more, nothing less...no hidden meanings or double talk....I just figured I should justify my opinion by describing as best I can the results of our testing here.... I do both, dyno and track testing and feel pretty confident in everything I have said...... I do not for a instant believe anyone is lying or being dishonest....But I most definitely have not missed the Forrest for the trees on this one, nor am I being dishonest, i did true double blind back to back testing..... If any of you do manage to come visit us at our track I would be tickled pink to have you take part is some of our testing..I am always looking for test pilots. ! |

Anyways every engine is different in how it responds to having the crank stuffed.......some engines pick up power, some lose power....... I do not think the ramp itself has much effect on the mixture path and the differences we do feel are a response to the change in crankcase volume more then anything else...... But where I have seen the ramp affect the engine is when too much silicone is used to ramp the crank and it gets in the way of the mixture path...this hurts power, and I have seen it on the dyno......... If you think about it, the more places the mixture makes contact, the more separation it experiences ..just like sticking your fingers in the patch of a spray can.... The less we contact the incoming mixture the better the mixture flows with the least amount of separation.. All too often i see cranks that are over stuffed ..which not only causes a loss of power, it also reduces the engines mileage........Some factories cranks are actually over stuffed right off the bat, and can see noticeable improvements just by opening the channel up...they not only pickup power, they also usually pickup runtime.........In the end the crankfiller should not get in the path of the incoming mixture...filling a void in the nose of the crank is one thing, but partially blocking the intake path with a ramp of silicone is not a good idea. IMHO.....When I fill a crank I try to make sure my ramp will make as little contact with the mixture as possible.... This season I did a test comparing filled crank vs non filled crank using the Bonito...... Judging by whats written on these forums It seems stuffing the crank on the Bonito is believed to be the single most important mod that can be done to it.......As apparently this mod brings out the bottom end of the engine........... I actually ran a non filled Bonito vs half a dozen of the filled Bonito's all season long on the track.....During the season we all swapped controllers back and forth , and even did a few drag races.......You cannot tell which Bonito is filled and which one is not...these is absolutely zero difference on the track..... not one person could tell ..... The Bonito with the non filled crank had just as much bottom end as the filled crank Bonito...and whats really strange is the non filled crank engine actually was a little better on fuel....... Anyways here is a video of the modified Bonito that does not have a filled crank.... It has massive bottom end and has no issues with idling down....so in the the end what was said/thought/sold to be the most important modification that can be made to the Bonito ended up being quite worthless for improving its performance.....And this is not just dyno testing, this is a pile of on track testing with some pretty skilled/experienced drivers....There are dozens of modifications that can be done to a Bonito that are a thousand times more effective then putting silicone filler into its crankshaft...Now of course I have not tested every engine out there in this manner... sorry for the long post guys, but I figured I have some good insight into this, as I did do a pretty thorough test on this during the season....cheers ! edit: in no way am I implying anyone else info is wrong or false....i am just relaying what I found with my own Bonito and several other engines I have tested.. I didn't want to get into this one but your data and guessing is wrong. Do you know the difference between dynamic pressure and static pressure? Thats exactly what Monty was referring to. You are comparing a spray can blowing out pressure to a vacume pressure. You may want to rethink your theory. |

In the end I have no beef with anyone...we are all entitled to our own beliefs, I respect others, and I feel they should respect mine... I think we should have a good ole fashion show down! Clockwork vs. Houston drag race! I've got a clocked Bonito or P5 anyone up for the challenge? Lol

I believe Neal does great work and would never dispute that guys , he knows alot I am 100% positive of that I wasnt really trying to "strike a blow" by that comment Neal , this got just a wee bit out of hand I would say , in case you didnt notice the "hefty" compliment in that same statement that you seemed to have found what you took as a strike at you , it was there I consider your workmanship, dedication , customer service and product support on a great level of expertise man , sometimes we all just need to take a step back though;) Viva la novarossi! |

Sounds like youre in the ballpark with the needles so kinda interesting , outside temps are? If its colder out you might try c5tgc instead Outside temps are about 30degC. Perhaps i will try the c5tgc plug when i get hold of it. Lucky I have 2 Plus 4 engines.. |

It is true that many of those guys who get what seems to be perceived as "full of theirselves" were too focused on certain aspects of a particular job that they would overlook a few simple things that were of great importance .

I have seen this ”war” between different engine modder before and what it all boils down to is some simple facts. Every engine is a compromise, you can´t build an engine that will win dragrace and still make 10+ minutes and last 10ga and the opposite is also true.
All of those that mod engines have to make compromises and everyone make their compromises at different places and if it works they (well, at least many of them) assume that everyone else is doing it wrong. That is about as much true as that Novarossi wouldn´t know hove to make the same engine mods that many on the aftermarket does, all that can be done is shift compromises to different places and thereby come up with a slightly different engine then when it left the factory. The only thing that can be done to improve an engine from a good company like Novarossi without altering the compromises they have made is to make subtle flow mods and make a “blueprinting” to what/where you are going to run your engine, this cost too much to be worth doing in full production at the plant and is practically impossible considering all the different places/cars/fuels etc these engines end up seeing. In the end I think there is enough room/market for all good people that supports their customers and I wish you all good luck! :tire:  |

Well I found this thread and thought it would be a good place to ask a question about my novarossi. I bought a buggy and it came with this motor. I knows its a .28 but thats about it. could someone identify this exact model Nova so if i ever need to get parts I can know which ones to get. I havent ran the motor yet because the buggy needs some parts first but this motor should fire, its has alot of compression and its not gummed up or anything. It has what appears to be JB weld in between the block and the carb for some reason, not sure why.

Or you could buy engines from both guys, like I did, and make your own decision.

As far as the JB Weld...it's anyone's guess but I suspect the case mightve been cracked in that location. I agree with you, fuel it up and rip it. |

Hard to tell exactly without having the engine in hand. However the engine appears to be one of the first gen Novarossi 528X engines. Very powerful engine, with tons of torque and speed. :D You can obtain the manual from RCdocuments.com, go to Novarossi and there's a PDF you can download for the engine.

I think that might be a epoxy sealing of some sort. Prevent air leaks. It should come off pretty easily if it's anything like someone used one of mine. Is it still soft or rock hard?

HELP!!
Anyone on-line that can help me out?!??!! I just got my first New Novarossi (I am kinda a newbie) I have a Bonito. I am putting it on my Losi Eight-T 2.0
#1: Collet??? Use the one that came with the Engine...or the Losi?? #2:Clutch shimming, Is the ANY differences I need to do shimming wise than the original (starting out I had a RTR its about a month old but EVERYTHING has been changed now finalizing it with a Bonito) #3: I just got in the Quick change engine mount (Losi) and put the 2 pieces on the engine, tightened them down, the went to just look at it on the mount base (un-installed) and the Top block is about 1mm or LESS than 1mm too wide to fit into the locating pins!!?? AHHH...any ideas???? THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!!:tire::tire::tire: |

The collet, screw, and engine mount you'll just have to experiment with. (start with the ones from the engine..)
As for shimming, you'll have to add or take out shims by experimenting til it's right. You want everything tight so that the CB spins freely with no binding or weird sounds. Front to back play should be max 1mm, or less.. Start by putting one or two thin (or one medium-ish..) shim on the shaft first, then the first bearing, then the CB, then the 2nd bearing, then shim over the second bearing as necessary.. If the CB doesn't spin right, maybe add another shim behind the first bearing.. |
