The protek is just a S21P5XLT with a different carb.

Looks like it...a 3 needle carb from the Clio vise the 2 needle on the P5. Don't care much for that 3 carb anyway...

When it comes to carb inserts, is it safe to say the larger the insert the larger the tuning window is? I seem to remember being told that smaller inserts gave a smaller tuning window. As in small insert requires smaller carb adjustments, larger insert required larger adjustments. Is this correct thinking or not?

am 02-22-2017 01:09 PM

Tuning window is larger, yes. But i do not compleatly agree that you can make larger adjustments. Yes, you can make larger adjustments, but i would still make smaller adjustments. I did get some help in France at a euros event and the guy from Novarossi made very small adjustments at a time. maybe a minute max two. I have taken that with me when i tune engines;-)

Ok, guys,
I'm used to and like the feel of the 21-4 c team motor with 9901 /42021 combo.

I'm looking at the Elite 5 with 2096/42021 combo.

Besides more top end, how would the bottom end and economy compare?

Thanks

Deffinetly not a bad motor....Its going to have a lot more bottom end than the 21-4. You can harness that with a shorter manifold which will also improve the top end on it, as it does top out fairly quick. Not to say that its bad, but redline is about 37-38K.

Run times with a 2096 or 9901 will be about 8-9 in a buggy easy...possibly 10 if you are smooth on the throttle.

And for $140-150 its a awesome deal...

Thanks Jerm

So... Quick question for the Nova gurus. I've got a Beat BT4 Plus that has served me well for a long time. the sleeve has been pinched before and now it's losing compression again. I'd like to pick up a new piston and sleeve set for her, but they are pretty hard to find. I know it uses the P7 conrod like my Plus 21-4 BTT, but can I use the piston and sleeve set too? They are much easier to find. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Chris Reilly 02-26-2017 09:26 AM

You can get it pinched again I believe. Just change rod and wrist pin and clips as well. Bearings if they are not good

HaulinBass 02-26-2017 09:41 AM

the beat BT4 uses the BTTw/c piston and sleeve I believe, just to be sure where does your sleeve index?

The sleeve indexes on the left side of the engine.

HaulinBass 02-28-2017 12:41 AM

Ah then it's not the same

Hi
Back in to nitro after years away with brushless motors.
Missed the noise and the smell !
I got a great deal on a brand new BONITO 21-7XLB.
What would be the best header to use (i have a 9901 and 2096 pipe)
Also looking at what is the best clutch to use on this set up.
I have a Losi truggy , but looking at getting an MP9, so hope to put the motor in that.

Many Thanks
Tom

Mito 4 vs virtus

Hey looking to get a novarossi for my kyosho any feedback on which would be best? Also what exactly is the pre run? Complete break in or no? Thanks

Hi, hoping to get some information for an old Top engine.

Bought a buggy on ebay, came with a top engine (without any of the paperwork/certificate) which after much searching (and the wayback machine) I think I've narrowed it down to a 2004 PT21RR1/N.

I'm after any information from anyone who is familiar with the engine and how it compares to modern motors. It still has some pinch at the top, but want to know if its worth buying the parts for (getting rare now) or when the time comes investing in a more modern engine.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Novarossi fans ... I have a question about these two engines !!!
Ultimate M5 and Novarossi P5XLT.

The engines are the same or have differences between one and the other. In internal engine
In terms of practical regime are equal 6000x36.200RPM.

Hi, Not sure if this is the thread to ask but does anyone have any info or experience with the ProTek RC Euro LS-5, the crankcase says its made by Nova. I'm just wondering since i'm just wondering if its similar to the Drake engine cause i love those but it might stop being available soon.

Pipe and manifold choices

Just bought a keep off 21-4 with 9901 pipe and 41021 manifold. Running on med size track, technical with turn into jumps, single doubles etc.. and one long 150 ft back raising straight. This combo was suggested by a top local racer. Now reading this form maybe a far better pipe combo??? Lhs hasn't put order in yet

Just get the 41001 manifold and all will be good

[QUOTE=powerpig Now reading this form maybe a far better pipe combo???[/QUOTE]
I drive my serpent SRX8 on a smaller track that is technical and about a 90 foot back straight. And then there I drive at thunder alley that is huge with long straight, huge everything. My keep off 4 with 41021 and 9901 is just fine. I'm am not the worst driver and nowhere the best, but I think you can get better gains messing with clutch rather than a exhaust manifold. I've heard Kortz quote in a video once, that guys worry too much about the minor things. Just learn to drive first.

What size carb restrictors you guys using in the mito4 ? I got the pre run version and it comes with the 5.6mm anybody else using that?

Ran a 6.5 last weekend and was able to get 10 mins on a slower technical indoor track. I still had too much bottom end power will most likely go with the 6 or 5.48 this weekend.

Anyone knows the measurements of the rear bearing for the Nova Drake Edition.

14.5x26x6 . . . .inner race is not offset. The Nova bearing (steel) is 16003. I am looking at a ceramic boca bearing for mine as tko only has that size in the offset race.

Hope that helps.

Best engine on nova direct

So , what is your opinion on the nova direct website engine offerings ? What would be your pick for buggy on a med track with good grip ? Why ?

Mito 4 for the power and gas mileage. If its really decent grip I would try the Bonito, because it has killer medium to top end speed and super easy to drive on the bottom end.

if its only 150' straight you should be ok

2096 is the other great option

My understanding is you have to be one hell of a drive to notice a difference. I think Elite 5 value wise, and Mito 4 most popular. I choose Keep off because of the 2 needle carb ( easier tuning for me ) and a few other racers in my club running the same.

Looking for info on this engine Novarossi SBK01 bx21. It has what looks to series numbers engraved on the side 1000 111 And the crank and sleeve appear to be modified.
Anyone know what they mean?

Maybe done by the legend himseld, Ron Paris original modified? Can't remember if he actually placed his name on the side or not....that engine is surely back in the days when he was around.

I had REX SBK01 as my first 1/8 buggy engine. It was a beast! If i remember correctly it was a square stroke, 5 port. Pretty good all around engine. It would be right with the RB and Sirio engines of the time.

As far as Paris modding it, quite possible but I think Ron passed away in 2001. So it depends on the year. I had one of his .12 touring car engines. That thing had a mid-range kick that you thought a single speed touring car had a 2 speed in it.
