New engine- Drake special edition 5 port

http://novarossidirect.com/ADAM-DRAK...FF_p_3411.html

Looks kinda cool, not sure what it's all about though. There's not much else out there on it, except I'd guess it's mostly based off the Rex R21 Plus5

Steel bearings looks pretty basic and cheap to be a special edition

The main question is if you do need ceramics. I am pretty sure that 99% of the drivers or lets say 100% of the non sponsored drivers do not need it.

also to add here...when you do drop shims you must be careful not to run it too lean...use the glowplug as your canary in the mine and if you see any distortion in the coils its not happy..either fatten it up, run a cooler plug or add a 0.1 mm back to it....They can run really good this way but have less tolerance for being lean, thats when they will start to detonate....

I've already got a #7 plug in it from the last time I ran it in the summer. I'll pull 0.2mm of shims, fatten it up and tune from there.

What do you think about the 9886/41019 combo on a Cinco BT in a buggy? Hopefully I'm not going to lose too much bottom.

+1

Novarossi steel bearings are good bearings

it will will probably have better bottom then all the 3 chamber pipes like the 2096 and 9901

HaulinBass 03-23-2016 07:38 AM

anyone know where the mc8 and mc9 plus fit in around novas plugs, got full sheet of each id like to get rid of as they are almost ten years old

Hello, I'm still pretty new to nitro. I have a Mito4/021/2096 in my RC8B3. How would a 9901 perform compared to the 2096?

Slightly less top end, slightly more bottom end. Not a whole lot of difference...

What's the trick/purpose of the 3 needle carbs? I just pulled the trigger on a mito7 for my truggy....noticed a 3rd needle...what's really for?

Pretty much just a decoration. Almost everyone just leaves it at the stock flush setting. But if you were to mess with it the midrange adjustment basically adjusts the position of the spray bar... but any gains are usually minimal and not worth the hassle.

I agreed with it. Is really decoration unless you over tune it will make the engine stupid

it allows you to move the fuel outlet to match the size of the venturi insert...use a small insert you move it inwards, use a large insert you move it outwards...Basically allowing you to maintain the same location in relation to the incoming air stream...... when you adjust it you also adjust the LSN with it...so if you turn the Mid out half a turn you would turn the LSN in 1/2 a turn.....

Awesome! Thanks!! Simple enough....

Ok guys, will a Werks 2058 be a descent pipe?I also have a ninja pipe 2042(suppose to be the same As a os 2060)got one of these elites on the way and trying to formult a plan.$s$ for a pipe.

Herrsavage 03-25-2016 01:08 PM

What's the current Nova Direct coupon code? Thanks...

HaulinBass 03-25-2016 02:05 PM

well that gold edition nova 3 port absolute is selling is a pretty decent little motor for the price, the specs they list are wrong as its a square stroke motor but with 1.0s and std ae rc8 shoes its got decent bottom and enough top end for at least 100 foot straight and its just broken in.
running a werks 086 on it with an unknown smooth bend header(its my shortest smoothie) in an ancient cl-1buggy

I'm looking for some options for a throttle return spring set up. I'm told a rubber band works or a spring. I'm also told this only pulls on one side of the carb so it causes uneven wear on the slide which effects tune. What are some options for this? Pics are helpful if possible.

Rubber bands, water balloons, silicon hair bands, springs... It really doesn't matter as they all do the same thing. As long as it closes the carb all the way to the idle stop, it doesn't matter.

I have never run without one honestly and I think it helps to "assist" the engine coming from WOT to idle...But as long as it closes smoothly, you should be fine.

Chris Reilly 03-25-2016 08:55 PM

They can cause the carb to bind. I use a hair band and it is light enough to close the carb but not cause the carb to bind. Never ran one for 10 plus years.

Herrsavage 03-25-2016 11:35 PM

Search "Carb-O's" at Amain..

houston 03-25-2016 11:46 PM

Goodys silicone hair bands

Unless you got a super cheezy carb you will be fine

Integra 03-26-2016 06:45 AM

Cant honestly say ive Ever had my throttle linkage ball pop off, Also a proper build linkage will technically never fall apart (vehicle to vehicle accidents aside)

So therefor i dont see the point of a Goody band anymore.

In case you wanted specific Springs, Novarossi Direct has these:

Doesnt hurt to be safe

What ifs always get ya

Btw those metal return springs will wear your carb slide boot until there is a hole ,guaranteed

bash bros 03-26-2016 11:36 AM

Yeah elastic bands work just fine.

They've saved me a couple runaways when I had rx problems.

Shrink tube at the end of the spring will cure that. ;)

HaulinBass 03-26-2016 12:17 PM

or using a button head screw instead of a set screw to hold the ball end on and run the spring on the backside of the carb. the spring is always straight this way, and a straight spring ensures a smooth pull.
edit looking at my carb now i cant remember how i used to do that.

That, and mounting the spring in a hole on the cooling head. (I'm using a regular pulling spring)
That's the way I do it, and I have yet to have a carb boot wear through. :tire:

Ok let me "rephrase"

that spring when installed to recommendations will rub through the carb boot

dam

Chris Reilly 03-26-2016 08:35 PM

Hair band is so much easier and is cheap.

Can anyone tell me if the new clutch and bell will work on a Losi buggy?

Yes... Pretty much any clutch will work correctly if you set it up right.... i.e. motor mount, collet, shims and so forth.

Hey what you guys take on the Adam Drake speacial 5off? New Novarossi motor wonder how different it is compared to a P5 , any pipe ideas?

Its a P5 "Clio" with a Mito/VirTus crank (14.5mm instead of the P5's 14mm) and 2 needle carb instead of the 3 needle and all blacked out! Lots of torque and will rev to about 40K RPM.

Pipe choice will depend on track size and what you need the motor to do, but I have been running an 53 and an 86 on my P5 with awesome results. Maybe a 2096 for a smoother power delivery.

Because the Drake engine has a centered carburator it will not have a Mito/Virtus crank.

OK.... so its a 14.5mm crank rather than a 14mm;)Or could be from the Bonito, which is also a 14.5mm....

Should have specified "SIZE!"

Anyone know why the racer10 code is not working on the novarossidirect website?

Herrsavage 03-30-2016 04:56 AM

I know it doesn't work for stuff already on sale..
