Novarossi Rex Legend 4 has a lot more power. The Legend 4 is an updated and more powerful Keep Off 4

Very strong bottom end and mid range torque on the Legend 4 with only a small (5.5) venturi. Top end good too and without a doubt one of the best buggy engines i have ever used in my opinion

Same basic engine, different crankshaft.

The only real difference I can find is it uses 15005 crankshaft, which I think has been around for a fair few years. (I seem to remember a JP modified 15005B) It only says 15005, with no "T" on it, so it probably is not changed/"tuned" either.

I see, so better buy btta? Any advise?

It depends on what you want, The 4BTT is a far less powerful engine than a keep off 4 let along a legend 4

Many people dislike the 4BTT because of its lack of torque... some people love it, You need to think about what tracks you will use it on and what you want to expect from your engine

The crankshaft has all the good bits .. which is all but completely irrelevant to the performance anyway

The Legend 4 has the same carb as the Mito with the middle mixture screw, Also a different case as well as crank which give performance characteristics all of their own.. Legend 4 is a very strong buggy engine which for many people would be right at home in a Truggy

I wanted to see if someone on here could help me out with the choice of a engine...i got a evo outlaw promod chassis from "drag race concepts" with a werks pro .21 engine looking for something a little faster what do you think about the NOVAROSSI BONITO .21 engine from "rb mods".going too be using it for drag racing track length is any where from 150 foot to 250 foot long.

CHOAS 04-11-2015 10:44 AM

Bonito XLB or Keep Off XLB for same price. What one to buy and why?
Probably truggy engine as sounds like both are to much for buggy ?
Will Bonito head fit on a Keep Off? Looks like exact same head other than graphics.

Thanks :)

Hi guys,

I'm looking toward a new engine and decided on a Novarossi (I had a 353 a long time ago).
Today would you still recommend a P5XLT with a 9901 or going up the line for something more expensive ? (plus4 btt?)
Looking for something for the long term (I'll do some club racing with it). Don't wan't a 3 needle carburetor as I wouldn't know how to set it and I probably wouldn't benefit from it even if I knew.

I've given up on my second hand Alpha (0.25mm play on conrod, the crankshaft is 4.85mm with 0.05mm oval and the piston is 100% free without the cyl head...).

Thank you in advance

Thanks for the reply.

I decided to play safe. Unfortunaly there's no retailer for fusion's engine in France :(.
I just ordered a P5XLT with a 2096 + 51020 and some n°6 Nova turbo plugs.
Our track is relatively small so I don't need the high rpm of the btt. Many guys have the P5XLT at the track which will help too :).

cczjordan 04-13-2015 06:36 AM

Try 9853/9886 - 41021 if u had it already. Is nice

Lol

Yes bonito ,keep off series all fit each other as long as its 4 bolt pattern

Bonito and keepoff 7 are exact same engines aside from a dfrnt rear bearing , i about guarantee you would not notice any dfrnc in performance or tunability

Does paloma have d same cooling head height? What is the ideal head shim after broken in running with byron 25/11?

Thanks in advance

May I also suggest the Werks 2058 pipe/header set ( if you can get your hands on one there). Amazing combo when paired with the P5xlt.

Hey Neal,
You have a link or a Thread on here for Nitro Shop Modified??

Thanks

I have a question. I bought a truggy and it came with a p5 that was supposedly just been broken in on the bench and not ran in the truggy. Today I was wrenching on it and had it upside down and noticed what seemed to be a bunch of liquid come from the pipe. Took a few pictures of it but kinda hard to see it. Is this normal? Fairly new to nitro but I have another engine that has over a gallon on it and nothing leaks out the pipe. I also haven't fired up the p5 yet.

beidle99 04-20-2015 03:18 AM

Normal for break in. The oil doesn't burn off at the same rate as the other ingredients in the fuel, that's why it in the fuel as a lubricant. Once the engine is broken in and you get up to a race tune you will have less oil left in the pipe as your tune will be leaner.

cczjordan 04-20-2015 03:41 AM

As u mentioned it was break in on d bench sure will have more lube unburn inside d pipe especially with high lube fuel

Rossi S42BX question....

Just picked up a slightly used s42bx. I'm looking for recommendations on glow plugs....long/short? Brand? Hot/Med? Any help would be appreciated!

Im assuming that you mean S421BX. That should be a turbo plug engine. Standard is a C6 plug from Novarossi, or an Odonnell 97T would be a good choice as well.

Keep Off 7

I ran this engine for one race season and it has like 2 1/2 gallons through it. It's starting to shut off after I bring the car in and it idles for like 1 to 3 secs. has a littl pinch you can feel. Plenty of Bottom end and top end is still present in the engine. I must admit I probably ran it to lean in the first season as I was new to Novarossi engines. Is it worth the rebuild or should I just buy a new engine? I tried raising the idle and richening lsn which worked for awhile while and the engine was idling kind of high but after a 20 min run (refueled of course) I stop the car and it shut off again. Brand new clutch was just installed as well. Any insight fellas

ScrewLoose 04-21-2015 04:57 PM

Was given a P5XLT with 6+ gallons. It seems to run ok and tunes good. Anything I can do to help keep the engine life going? Don't know if it helps but running Flashpoint 30%.

cczjordan 04-21-2015 04:59 PM

Try reduce d head shim if u running with 25% nitro, usually 2 to 3 gallon is expected if tuned for extreme power. Try fuel with castor/synthetic might help but if still have compression.

Anyway since is only 2 gallon +, i believe d crank pin still good so just get a repinch instead of rebuild, new conrod after repinch will do the trick. Hope it helps

is the 2096 a good pipe combo with the rex legend 4port in buggy?

Not sure about the Rex but the plus 4 btt really liked the 2096.

I ran VP power master fuel most of the time then I switched to Byron. Both 30%. I switched from the VP because even though lots of smoke was visible the engine still seemed to be running extremely hot.

kgombe 04-22-2015 07:05 AM

if you went from VP to byron race, a retune will be needed for sure..

I did retune it from stock settings.

I think prolonged lean run resulted in premature ejaculation

In that case would a resize be sufficient? Or would I need to change bearings as well?

shannow 04-26-2015 04:53 PM

Hello, I got my P5xlt running very nicely but I have just one issue with it:
when I go for a refill and basicaly the engine's been idling for at least 30s to one minute when I accelerate the car stalls. I am told this is normal and that I should accelerate to full throttle when the car's been idling for a long time. Is this correct ? I am tempted to lean the LSN (I have a 0.7mm idle gap and everything is just a tad rich for safety sake as it's still new and within the 5L mark).

Thanks

If 30s to 1min, it sure load up even ideal lsn. Usually this situation only encounter in break in process. During race, i think 10-15s for refuel is close enough. Try clear out b4 it stay idling for so long. Hope it helps

beidle99 04-26-2015 05:36 PM

I have my LSN set pretty close to ideal (IMHO) after about 20 seconds the idle will drop down as the engine starts to load up, but if I pull the throttle I get a nice crisp take off with a little lager then normal puff of smoke. Once you get the P5 broken in you should be able to do that too. it takes about a gallon and half to fully break-in. you will probably be able to lessen the idle gap and lean the LSN too. Im not sure what mine measures, you just get use to how to tune the LSN and idle screw. You'll know when you get the LSN to lean as the engine will start to do short lean bogs when coming off idle or slow corners when up to temp. Fattening the LSN an hour or 2 takes the short bogs away.
