I felt the 9901 had to much bottom end not enough top for the plus 4. The 2096 is smooth enough on the bottom that it reduces wheel spin coming out of the corner to allow the buggy to hook up and launch hard. I can clear every jump at family no problem. Also the midrange is very smooth, just like the bottom end. Dont read smooth as lacking power...my buggy gets out of the hole very hard. Limited wheel spin means traction! :sneaky: If you want I'll let you wheel it a few laps during practice Saturday once I sort out a few of the set-up changes I did this week.

ok sounds good.

Could anyone please tell me if i can put a Plus4 piston, conrod and sleeve in a Plus4-C Team?. I am going to use the Plus4-C Team crankshaft and crankcase but the part number of the Plus4 crankshaft, piston and sleeve are different than a Plus4-C Team. The conrod is the same.

Thank you

Hey Nick,

I looked up that pipe you suggested and it's recommended for Euro tracks. Low bite, high speed, flowing. Other than the low bite, not sure that applies :P

Like others said get the 2096 for the p5. Great combo

All plus4 parts are interchangeable , just don't try to put 28002 head button under the lowered cooling heads ;)

Speaking of 21-4C, I ran 21-4C today with 9901 and 41029 and was very happy with that, I didn't notice any of this "bottom end pipe" stuff, but then I ran 0.9 springs.. top end wasn't that great, but you don't win races down the 2-3 seconds of the straightaway.

WildManDriving 07-15-2013 02:40 AM

Pulled out my old Toro Nero today to try it in comparison to my most recent engine the BTT WC in my MBX7. Toro fitted 9901/41021 and BTT 2096/41029 both with the same nitro, venturi and plug with the Toro having just a little less compression. The Toro top end was awesome but I want the bottom end I'm getting out of the BTT, I don't mind losing a little top to get it. Is my Toro tune a little off? Should I try a different pipe? Is the engine a little tired?

Thanks in advance,
Michael.

P.S. I did the comparison test as I'm thinking of getting a Bonito for the buggy on high grip and the Truggy the rest of its life.

I think its your pipe/header combo. Since the Toro Nero is a 7-port with a lot of top end I would be running a bottom end pipe on it like a Nova 9853 or a Werks 2058. I would also lose the smooth header and go with a 41001 or use your 41029. Any of those changes will wake up your bottom end.

Good luck.

I had a toro team and I agree the btt is much better overall considering the lack of bottom end of the toro. For buggy I would stick with the btt and try different pipes on it for different tracks. the 9853 rips on a btt off the bottom and the 2096 is the smooth operator and the 9886 is just fassst.

WildManDriving 07-19-2013 04:42 PM

Thanks guys, I've ordered the 9853 and I've now fitted the Toro to my old 6R as a local hobby has opened 1/8 to any brand to race Friday nights on there indoor 1/10 carpet track. I tried 1.05 clutch springs which worked well but I doubt a buggy will be drivable like this on dirt (my preferred surface).
From what I can find I've listed the common pipes and manifolds below, has anyone ever put the info of what pipe, manifold and combos produce what power characteristics? If so can someone post a link, and if not if people reply here or PM I'll create one as best as I can.

9901, 9886, 9853, 2096
41001, 41005, 41019, 41021, 41029

Thanks again,
Michael.

9886/41001............ this will wake it up across the entire RPM range

With further research asking the locals I've found that at Australian sanctioned events we are ruled to the IFMAR muffler list which I can only find the 9901, 2096 and 2084. Although most of my racing is at club level where things are a little more relax it means the WILD idea of running the Bonito in a buggy won't be allowed at the events it would most suit.

Thanks,
Michael.

For a Novarossi Keep-Off 7XL, which Novarossi pipe / manifold combo provides the most torque? And which combo provide most top end?

CaptainHowdyt13 07-21-2013 01:42 PM

Out of the P5 and Bonito, which would you recommend more for a truggy application? Im being told that for the price, the P5 is prettty unbeatable in the truggy.

I've ran both . If your on a budget run the p5. If you want a little more power the Bonito with the 41001 manifold and 9886 pipe runs great. The last time I ran my MBX6t I ran a Roma with a 14 tooth clutch bell and it was a fast machine for sure. I think I'll keep the Roma in it for awhile.

I ordered the Bonito.

Ive got a 41021/9901 I plan on pairing with it.

What to expect? Ive heard with this engine its all about the clutch setup.

I tried that pipe and it killed the power on mine.

How hard is it to get the tune right on a nova stock like a p5 or a plus 4?

Its not very hard to tune the Nova's at all. As long as everything is mechanically correct (fuel system, clutch, gaskets etc.) They are pretty easy to get a tune on them after break in. My plus 4 is on its 7th gallon and I only adjust the tune hour here or there as needed for weather conditions. Knock on wood...it runs like a champ at 270* to 280* all day long with 10:30 + minute pit stops.

I know my question sounded dumb so please bear with me cause I would like to try a nova the plus 4 u speak of is it a mod or stock, and the best around pipe for that engine? I don't want a mod for my first nova. And what plug? And how is a p5 nova?

Lille-bror 07-22-2013 12:20 AM

Novas just don't like a rich bottom. Find the point where its too lean and turn the LSN out a few hours until it has a smooth steady idle.

My. Plus 4 is modded. IMHO my favorite header is the 41021 with the 2096 pipe. You will get a bunch of different opinions on pipes/headers. This combo works for me everywhere I go. Same combo on the p5 works well. The P5 is a great engine too. Little more bottom end then a plus 4btt and slightly less top. Can't really go wrong with either engine.

I've never ran the 2096 but other people on here like it. I run the 9886 on all the novas I have. It's a 2 chamber pipe so it's a little louder which I like!:sneaky:

RC8 P5XLT QUESTION

DISCLAIMER: I am a mother who is looking for help on what to buy for my son's RC8. I have limited knowledge so that's why I was looking for your assistance.

My son has a Team Associated RC8 in which he has blown his motor. My son wants a Novarossi P5XLT engine. My question is what pipe, manifold and fuel filters should I purchase for it? The track he races on is pictured below. We live in the midwest so it gets very hot and humid as well. He needs excellent bottom end power but still needs to have great top end performance. I have read so many conflicting posts that I figured I would just ask everyone for help.
Thanks!

I am at the track almost 4 night a week now that he got his Nitro. I usually pit for him but I actually love the loud sound they make. My son is 10 and obsessed with them. So I either go and enjoy it or sit at home and dont see my family. The choice is pretty simple. :spidey:

Your awsome!!!!

P5 is a great engine, and will serve you well. If you have the mony, you might also consider the a Lucky 7 standard engine. It is the same engine as the P5, but it has a stronger piston that will last a bit longer than the standard P5.

They are on sale at absoulute Hobbyz now, so you can make a good deal i think.

I run Lucky 7 enignes here in Norway and try and sell them. They are good engines, but they slip under the radar. I just wanted to tell you that i sell them and could be biased. I do not want People to think i just advertice for someone without telling the Whole story. I will probebly go back to Novarossi Keepoff engines as soon as i am out of L7 engines as i have the possibilety to get back to Nova.

Best of Luck!!

Anders

Funny thing is, my parents were just as heavily involved with me when we raced go karts. I got in to RC mainly to have something I could do on my own without them :D

I think this is the last question for now,
I have a 2096 fitted to my BTT with a Ninja JX14002 L-type 21-B manifold, does anyone now which Nova manifold is the equivalent?

Thanks,

The engine will get better mileage once fully broken in. I also suspect being 'very new' you're running on the rich side. What size carb restrictor are you using? Also which tuned pipe?

FWIW 'The Drake' has quite a bit more throttle control compared to the mortal racer. In addition it would not surprise me he ran a small restrictor and the engine fairly lean to obtain such a number.
