Quad Racer 34 06-16-2010 07:55 PM

got WERKS on my new wrap thats coming sometime this week. would still like to have some werks stickers though:D

Ran my B5 tonight.. just amazing how consistent it is.. fired it right up. fattened it up 2 hours after driving for a while and thats it. I know I wont be switching from Werks engines anytime soon if ever!

I leaned one of my B5s more tonight, went from 8mins a tank to 11:30 in a tank. I will be pitting at 10 minute intervals from now on. I am still waiting on a 2057 pipe for it, too... If I am hitting 11+ with a 2035, I should be closer to 12 with the 2057, right?

I must be missing it but where is it tell you how to fix the 2 stage idle? My B5 was doing this the other day and I would like to fix it.

Thanks

I hit 13min with a 2035 and a .6mm restrictor just playing with the engine last weekend. Temps? @225-230 still have "cojones" lol.:D

Semple 06-17-2010 05:39 AM

Yeah, I was hitting 225º all night. Too much power at times. Took me a while to get used to the bottom end. I love these engines.

Just a quick race report, from my first real off-road race. I participated in the 2nd leg of the RC Pro series in Grand Prarie, Alberta (actually the 1st leg, since the first race in Edmonton was rained out) in both Intermediate Buggy and Truggy, both running B5's. Did pretty well, taking 3rd in Truggy, and 4th in Buggy. Had some grid issues in Buggy, so I ended up starting from pit lane, so I was really happy with making up all the positions during the race, most of which came from the first lap! There is something to be said for driving clean

It was my first real off road race, so I was pretty happy with the result. Had no problem keeping up with the Joneses on the straight, and nobody was passing on the straight either, so lots of map rip coming out of the B5!

On an additional note, Ty Tessman participated in the Expert class, and he absolutely schooled the field in both Buggy and Truggy. I unfortunately couldn't spend as much time watching him in the mains since I was marshalling (although I did sneak a peak from time to time), but I watched every quallie - the kid has some mad skills, that's for sure.

Semple 06-17-2010 06:47 AM

I imagine that every time he goes to Cali, Arizona, etc. he comes home with a little bit more skill. We could all benefit from a big race here and there with the big guys.

On a side note, I pulled the engine to service the clutch after last night's track time. There's a mixture of dirt and fuel from the front bearing area/behind the flywheel that has coated the front of the case, the front of the carb and got onto my rear brake disc. Doesn't seem to have affected performance at all. Should I be alarmed?

Werks 06-17-2010 08:42 AM

I would not worry, front bearings seep when you are breaking in engines and running them really rich. Oil pools up in the crankcase and seeps out when the motor sits. Just clean it up and run it some more then after a day or two pull the flywheel off and inspect it. When you are running at race tune you should see very little residue around the bearing if you do see some after the clean up take a look at the front seal on the bearing to see if it is damaged but again I don't think you will have any problems.

Regards,

Ron

Thanks, Ron. These engines are incredible.

Not so good with a JP-4. Try a 2057 if you can or 2035.
