The New Werks B5 .21 Racing Engine
#2746
lol, thanks for the feedback on the motor! If your running in buggy you might want to give the 2057 pipe a shot, it will smooth things out quite a bit on the bottom. The B5 with the 2013 has a lot of power and if you have both run the 2013 on blue grove or hooked tracks and the 2057 on looser tracks.
I'll try his out and see the diff. I got the reedy motor for boring slow is fast runtime.. blah blah..
With this lump i am gonna light people up coming out of hairpins....

There are 2 different camps on this one but I do it with the insert in and again please remember that the .5mm is just a ballpark it could be .25mm or .75mm and it would not make a difference. I use .5mm as a reference because it is easy to explain, roughly half the thickness of a credit card. Again though the exact amount is not critical, what is critical is that there is a sufficient gap to allow air to flow. So I guess instead of giving a fixed measurement if it is less confusing I could instead say "using your idle stop screw set the air gap by looking down the throat of the carburetor and adjusting the slide so that you have a visible opening to the slide".
Hope this clarifies thing, again in a nutshell the important thing is not that there is an exact amount that the air gap is set to. The important thing is that ther is an air gap! So for my tuning method just make sure that there is a gap, set it, after that leave it alone and tune using your needles. Hope this clarifies things a bit!

Ron

Just put on a werks pipe I believe to be a 2013 (lol it's scratched all to heck, ebay special, I can make out werks but not the #, seller said it was a 2013). I did some timed practice yesterday to get an idea of runtimes.
1st session - 11:09
2nd session - 10:58
Running in a losi 2.0t, very loose track (ungroomed practice, dusty), ~75-80 degrees.
Power is also improved.

Just a question on this.. I ran my first race(what a joke that was) with the B5 and When coming back down the idle would be high for maybe 10 seconds or so before dropping to normal idle and temps were reading in the 190's... My guess is lean top and fat bottom.
My problem is that based on your tuning method.. I would have thought the bottom was too lean because of how high the normal idle sounded. How much of an air gap should I be starting with?

I have to replace the front bearing in the B5 with 1 gallon in only because I used the shim that comes with the Mugen kits. I notice some leakage around the fly wheel so I took it apart and notice that the shim had a worn pattern. I thougt something was going on when I was getting 9:30 a tank at the start of the day and by the end it just go less. Love the motor

Did you need to put a a smaller diameter shim? or was it good without one?
thanks,

Man this little motor is prety awesome, finall recieved it, put it in my mbx6 and broke it in, all the power you can want on the bottom, though i was using a 13t clutch bell since thats all i had, was super jerky though. Really had alot of trouble controlling it on the track since it was so dry and dusty, though from what ive seen so far, i think this'll be the motor i buy for my truggy as well when my current one get a bit more fuel on it.
