Where do I start?

I got a used Sirio .12 Std (black head) that has about 10 races on it. I dont have a manual and I went to the site but im still unclear about something. When I get ready to attempt to tune the engine, what intial settings do i start with? This would be helpful especially since getting the engine I already played with the needles to see if they moved smooth.

BrainTeased 12-29-2004 02:33 AM

hey when i recieved my engine all needles were flush
low, medium and high so give that a try.

High Speed Needle - 5.5 turns out
Low speed Needle - flush with the end of the slide
Mid Range - Flush then one turn out

Sirio pipes ?

Does anyone know if this pipe will suit the EVO II. This is the only sirio pipe i can find for sale in the UK.

Sirio Tuned Pipe & Manifold Ref: S12200006

Do you guys know what sirio pipe is suitable for this motor. I just wonder what pipes they where running at the worlds and where i can get one from ?
:D

That's a good question Roki... I can't find a Sirio pipe here in the states either... I now some are using the Trinity .12 pipe... I'm using the STS tuned pipe with a picco build header... I'll post the parts numbers for you when I find them.. The STS on road .12 pipe has great low end and mid-range... The picco header fits the STS pipe and helps to give more top end... One thing of note... I raised the exhaust port on my EVO II sleeve a tad bit the help increase the top end as well... The power was everywhere... But that's for another posts... As for the Sirio pipe, anyone who has info where we can buy one.. Please post. I tried the Border RC online shop, RC-Mart and RC-Model.. No luck... I wanted to try the Siro pipe to compare it against the STS pipe with the Picco header designed for the Nova's a Sirio motors... Hope the info helps...

Yes Roki. That is the Sirio pipe suitable for any Sirio engine, in fact they only have two sets, the one above for most cars, and the
S12200007, for Serpent cars, which gives more clearance at the header end for the side pulley.
And yes it was the pipe used at the worlds.

Alan, you are right, Sirio pipes are not sold in the states. What i've found is that apart from the Sirio pipe, the best second choice is the M.Mielke pipe if you wan't to enhance top end.
Now, according to RC Car Nitro Magazine in the Dyno test made to the Sirio Collari engine in the January issue, they got the highest power ever on a small block engine, with the Novarrosi
51602 pipe, and a standard 90º header.

Thanks for the info.

I am awaiting a responce from local Sirio dealer to see if they can supply S12200007 .

I will let you know the outcome.

Thanks AFM... I tried the Yokomo Milkie pipe as well as the RD Logics turbo II, RB x12, and the OFNA Mega pipe... The best power I found from top to bottom was with the STS #22604 pipe, now being sold through RD Logics along with the Picco Manifold/header.. Part#51904... I pick up the header from Nitro house and the pipe from STS direct... The Picco header is much stronger then the stock STS header and a tad bit shorter for more top end... The power was everywhere!!! Top and mid and low!!! I've read that the LC Sirio is a short stroke motor... What is the EVO II??? Short stroke motors like that Yokomo Milkie pipe and Nova Mugen pipes... My EVO II didn't... It was much faster at take off and miderange by far with the STS/Picco combo and after I raised the exhaust port on the sleeve a tad... and massaged the crank alittle... My motors top end was ballistic!!! That being said... Gearing and fuel does make a difference as well.. 35% O'Donnel's before testing and after... I'm running my EVO II in my G4/Mongoose... Question, I was thinking of picking up the LC-Sirio AAC sleeve and conrod as a back up/replacement for my stock ABC EVO II sleeve. Will the LC-AAC sleeve and conrod work in my EVO II??? Oh, cost of the STS pipe was $50.00 and the Picco header was $39.00.

Well Alan, I don't know if the Yokomo/Mielke pipe has the same dimensions as the one made for Werks Racing, who distributes the Collari Sirio, but when I contacted Andrea Rossi (Sirio), because I couldn't get a Sirio pipe, and asked him what would a second choice be, he told me the M.Mielke....so I guess maybe Werks has order a special Sirio model....you might wan't to check it out.
My personal experience....after trying almost every pipe available,
I finished with the Sirio original pipe, but moded to have silicone coupler, instead of fixed in-line, so I get the perfect tune for my track and racing conditions.
So actually I agree with you that gearing, fuel, traction, and I might add weather conditions, can offset a pipe very easily, so tuning flexibilty is a must (I hate fixed in-line pipes).

Going to Sirio and Collari engines.
Every part between them is interchangable, except the cranckcase, and the cooling head, which is were L. Collari made it's low center gravity mod, and in the Mauro Collari hand moded engine there is a lot of work on timing, porting and etc.etc.
So your last question's answer is YES.

BTW technically all Nova, Picco, and Sirio based .12 engines are long stroke engines, but differ in conrod lenght, which is another issue, so going back to Sirio and Collari they would classify as
mid-lenght conrod engines, versus short conrod engines like Nova based engines (except the RRL3). Also Picco based engines would fall into the mid-lenght conrod class.
Having told you that....try experimenting your Sirio with Picco pipes....????

No.. the only place that carries picco pipes in my area are selling them for about $100.00... I have a bunch of pipes just laying around... I know that Andrea Rossi said to try the Mielke and I'm sure he knows alot more about his motor then I do... I did and when using the Yokomo Mielke and the STS #22604 along with the Picco header, it was like night and day.. The Mielke is tuned for top end and what I found with the EVO II, it caused it to lack a little on the takeoff/low end... The STS pipe gives it great low to midrange and the shorter Picco header helps to give it more on the top... Hey... I'll be happy when someone starts importing the Sirio tuned pipes here in the States... I can't even find in on the Border RC... WoW... And Trinity is selling there pipe even though they sell the EVO II motor... I might give the Werks picco pipe a shot after I pick up my Speckrum reciever for my M8 radio later this month... No more crystals and no more Channel sharing...

has anyone tried the sirio 12 wcr

thanks

Roki 01-13-2005 01:59 PM

Evo II TRP I approval

Tested my Evo II TRP I with S12200006 Sirio pipe a few days ago in my G4.Wow what can i say i was well impressed with this engine.Managed to get about 8 mins from a tank it ran at about 250f/260f which is slightly hotter than i thought but any richer and it was noticeably slower.

The only disapointment was the pipe doesnt have an EFRA stamp on it and for £63 GBP i thought that was a bit of a cheek.
