Unless you have a timing wheel, i doubt you'll be able to tell the difference. From what i heard, they decreased the timing a little bit on the new crank, and small other small changes.

I'm afraid that you are incorrect G!;)
As Kickass stated above, the early evo 3 motors had the cranks breaking across the middle.
This problem was rectified for the next batch of evo3s!
The sti's crank you already know about!;):)

No worries itch!! i dont mind being corrected at any time, i miss understood
my cup donater. lol

no need to determine just use it. The early ones all broke within 1 litre so you will know with a couple of tanks, if it is second hand then it is prob ok.

cranks

elch & bear
- both cranks are identical
- the orig crank had less timing and you can see this when you hold it next to one of the later cranks any one can tell more meat more metal thicker edges get the drift.
- the later cranks are also a different hardness less brittle, i time all my later cranks to the original speck and none have broke
- the original crank was faster

breakin in evo4sti

i just went through the breakin process and to my amazament it was very easy. just put it on the box and after 2 cranks it fired up. its certainly easier comparing to my previous nova and OS. and the sounds is so fantastic:blush::sweat: next is to see if i can drive as well as the engine performs:D

Hi guys, i'm new to this forum and would be great if anybody can help me.
i have just bought a used kanai evo III engine, itīs almost new (1 gallon after break in) but the guy that sell it to me do a "cleaning" to the engine and screw-unscrew all the carb needles forgeting to take note of the factory settings.
My biggest concern is the mid needle, do anybody know it's factory setting starting from completely closed?? i guess it should be about 5, 5 1/2 turns out.

thanks.

What bearing removal/insert tool does everyone use? This is for Sirio Evo3/Evo4.

ezveedub 07-02-2008 11:55 PM

Use a toaster oven, heat gun or regular oven at 400F and a freezer for basic bearing replacement. No special tools are really needed IMO.

Sirio S27RE

I recently purachsed a Revo with a Sirio 27 in it. When I attempted to start the truck, the one way bearing was out. I pulled it apart and saw the bearing had tore up the back plate shaft. I am not able to find one. Does anyone know where I can get one of these or anyone have an old sirio engine around that would be willing to sell this part? I was able to track down the part number, S23082000. It appears that the S23 and S27 use the same back plate shaft. Thanks...
