As for the Drake Edition engines I think they are Picco based AFM |

Bearing problem
I just got my self a Sirio Evo 3 STI and it has just got through 5-6 tanks of race tuning. Somehow when I check the engine the crankshaft has got lots of play which indicate bearing worn out. This happened to my friend's engine too and he too has about the same tanks through it. Is this normal? And by the way what is the size of the bearings? I wanted to order replacement from Boca Bearing.

If the crankshaft has some play when you push and pull it with no flywheel mounted, I wouldn't be worried.

Main bearing isn't much expensive, so if your one has developed play, change it and enjoy the engine. |

I changed the main bearing to mine and works like a charm.

How much play crank have? It suppose to have some play-it is C3-C4 class so those bearing are selected to have play to work on high RPM. If engine has just 5-6 tanks racing tune it should not be worn out-way too early. The best way t check without tools is-wash case with denaturated alcohol very well-no oil resedue should be there, insert cranck all the way and spin it slow-if you fill it is rateling (not spinning free) then it is indication of bad bearing. When bearing worn out-it is not just balls get smaller or race trak on the rings get bigger-it is always some metal chip out from balls or raceways and you should feel it easy. Here is link http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.as...rnal_Clearance where you ccan read about bearings clearance. If you decide to change bearing-I personaly will stay with OEM or other proven brand and defenetly will avoid to use cheap general manufacturing specs. |
I to have found that the sirio replacement front bearings have too much play in them. So much so that you can actually see the balls from the outer side. I also compared my new front bearings weep to an older engine and mine had considerably more weepage so much so that it covered the entire front of the engine upto and past the carby. Now i dont think this is normal.
