best truggy size engine
hey all; Just want to know what's the best size engine for truggies. Some have said .21 because they get better fuel milage while others say .28 because they can handle the bigger truggies better. Now we have a new option in the trinity extech .24 would this engine be considered the best combonation of power and fuel milage and has anyone tried it yet? Thanks for the info

Most people use a .21 engine. very controlable and powerful. Installing a larger motor is no problem. The down side to a larger motor is the excessive wheel spin and poor traction due to excessive torque when on a dry surface.

lol, good point.
I dont drive it often, so I can kinda make my tires last a while. I usually only drive on gravel roads and thats not too hard on them, especially proline knuckles. and ill use them until they are totally done.

Most people use the .21's in their truggies'. Some of the best deals on .21 size motors that I've found are here... its a limited time thing... I think..

If you want to seriously race your truggy, I personally feel , and experienced, that a 21 motor will give you faster laptimes. The reason I saw, and experienced, is that it is easier to stay on the racing line (the fastest route) with the kind of powerband a good .21 motor gives. And as I have experienced, you can win races, eventhough you are not that fast, as long as you are consistent in running the racing line. A good .28 can make you look good on the track because your car will be looking so powerful (fast acceleration and jumping ability). But, it will make it harder for you to consistently stay on the racing line. And in off-road especially, traction in most cases is very limited. You can never completely transfer all the power of an engine to distance traveled on the track. Some would say that you can go easy on the throttle so as to prevent traction loss in powerful engines. That is very true. But it takes a lot of practice to do that in an actual race, where the pressure to go even faster is very constant.
If you are just going to bash with your truggy, then by all means, get a powerful .28. It will make you not only feel good, it will make you look good as well.

It depends on the truck, If an older design and less efficient drive train (HB Lsp, or GS), a bigger (.24-.28) would be best. If modern high efficiency design ( Losi 8T, hyper ST or AE RC8T) a .21 will be more than enough to satisfy you. I had an 8T and it run great with a V-spec .21
