By the time you buy a crank, p/s/r, and a bearing, you might as well just buy a new engine because it's probably going to be nearly as much. There comes a point where rebuilds just aren't worth it. Just food for thought, but I know in these times everybody's trying to maximize value.

I absolutely agree, if it's not worth the cost I won't do it, just curious as to what's been changed.

On a different note, has anyone tried the Dynamite 053MR Mid Range pipe on the Reedy? Noticed my AE header is bent and my LHS didn't have one in stock, looking to try the Dynamite pipe and header until then.

Changing the piston and sleeve is ok but I never invest more on a worn out engine.


This might be a good idea to keep the 121VR as spare engine and buy a 121VR-ST for racing. That's what I plan to do myself.

I have 2 of these engines. Bought in 11/2009 on ebay.
I have been running one of these engines and I just tore it down, and I found the silicone has come out.
The other HAS NOT been run yet.

Is there a certain way to send it? Explanations, receipts I need to get a new one?
Besides the engine, do I send in the carb inserts?

Maifield was running a 9901 pipe at the worlds, any idea why? I realize it's with the new Reedy VR-ST, but since I understand the Reedy VR is very similar, would this pipe be a good choice with the VR-ST?

Anyone try this combo? I run a 2035 now in buggy.

Maifield likes the way this combo drives. In terms of performance, it seems to reduce bottom end slightly.

It's funny how we sportsmen hackers are spending our time squeezing every ounce of power out of our engines, while the pro's are spending more energy managing that power....good to know

He was also using a VR engine with an ST head. According to him, the ST was "too fast". The ST head is lighter than the VR head.

I believe that today's engines produce too much power or more power than really needed. It is now time to have better power band to put all these ponnies efficiently to the ground and for better fuel milleage.

Agreed, companies should be spending more time on fuel economy and smoother power bands than making more power.

Sent both engines out, and hopefully I get them back soon.

Thinking of trying a VR with the 2039 pipe. what kind of run times are we getting? is it better than with a 2035?
