I don't mean to put a fork in Reedy's bubble, but this engine is starting to drive me a bit crazy.

Break-in was very easy; heat cycled like a dream. I'm not sure if this engine is known for having lean-bog issues, but as soon as it was ready for the track, it was lean-bog city. The needles are set pukingly rich, although the lean problem still exists (especially during mid acceleration). I reset the needles, tried again, and no luck.

Sometimes this erratic behavior can be attributed to an airleak, but it idles nice and temps are in the reasonably low 200's. I'm using a healthy jug of standard Byron 30% fuel, AE 2035 pipe and matching manifold, with a P3/P4 plug. Fuel tank and tubing are new as well.

In the past four years, I haven't had any issues like this with Vspecs or RB's. If someone could throw a few words of advice my way, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The engine comes with 2 head shims installed...remove the thinest one and run a P3. Dont try to tune this engine by temp,it likes to run 250-280 in a buggy and 240-265 in a truggy.

Well I think the engine is great for power, power delivery and generally runs like a champ. Durability wise its not doing so great. Had 3-4 gallons on mine, tuned correctly and always taken care of after races and between races. But when the rear bearing (or what I thought was the rear bearing going out) went out, I replaced it with some quality bearings. Ran a couple break in tanks, just letting sit at idle and ginger throttle application, then less then 2 heats later it starts making a "whirring" noise (the same noise it was making before I replaced the bearing). I checked everything in the drive train, changed the clutch, the noise was still there. Ran 1 more heat, rather was in warm up and pop... engine stopped. Took it apart and the rear bearing was gone. On closer inspection the outer race was cracked, and the tip of the "scoop" part of the crank was discolored and appeared to have been rubbing. So not sure what to think, but will sent it back, hopefully just a new crank and bearing. Love the engine other then this, so hopefully will be up and going again soon enough.

Guys... I just wanted to say that I had the pleasure of meeting Brandon this past weekend at the SIC in Cullman,Alabama.

He is a perfect example of what a sponsored driver should be.

Not only did he help me with some set-up questions with my car and engine, he let me run his engine, that he was racing with, after I had a few problems with mine.

I can tell all of you that doubt, or that are questioning the Reedy engine that this thing ROCKS!!! I'm not exaggerating when I say that no other engine/buggy could pull me down the straights and I had plenty of power to clear any jumps that I needed to. As a matter of fact, I pulled away from other buggies in the straightaways. It's just a shame that my driving, and tires, couldn't take full advantage of what could be had.

Thanks again Brandon for letting me borrow that engine and helping me out. I look forward to racing with you again!

Brandon is First Class and the Team AE Reedy's were Blasting!!!!

If a may add a suggestion, every motor is different, the first thing I do when i have a lean bog and i feel the needles are where they need to be is check the clutch springs. It may only take going to one heavier spring to solve the problem. The clutch is critical.

Bogging in mid power band means you are lean on the bottom. Richen it 3 hours and you should be good to go.

I pull Speed 2's with my Reedy.

Lucky13- no problem at all, it's nice putting faces with names at races. I hate there were problem's with all manuf. engines at that race, but glad I could help you out to get your last round in. Good luck with racing, and if you have any questions about engine or car set-up at all, you have my email just let me know.

Lucky, i am right there with you on the motor. I pulled on Speed 2's at the proline gas champs in all sections. Those who say this motor has no power, dont have the tune right.

I finally was able to take it out on a real track tonight. This engine is quick, break in was simple. During break I just took a heat gun and heated it up to 180-190 and it turn right over...

I do have a question. This is my first real (race) engine. I notice when it warms up it has a "tingy" sound. Is that normal? I have heard that sound in real race engines.

I am running novarossi short manifold and a pipe...

Yes, its normal. The Reedy has a different sound from other motors. Once you hear it, you will know it.
