No problem....I ran my new one on the Z01T yesterday. It performed flawless. Thanks to my new engine tuner Mr. Alderman. :nod::)

I am thinking about getting this engine to match my O'Donnell buggy. Could i get away with running a 053 pipe on this engine? I know it wont be ideal but would it suffice until OD comes out with there own pipes?

devilchrist 09-03-2009 06:50 PM

i dont' have a 053 so i couln't tell you. but that's pretty much what I"m going. run 2050 until I odonnell pipe comes out

I found 77t plug runs really good with 20% nitro. *EDIT* but it burns out very quick on this motor. burnt two out in less than 4 tanks

run P3 OS plug if you have no choice. P3 runs the best, then 97t then 99t.

Well i got the engine, i have to wait to start breaking it in till i get my rear pinion and ring gear in the mail. i did have one question though, my hobby shop only carriers the 77t plugs (i have 97t's on order). can i use a 77t if i have to until my 97t come in. i have a race next sunday and if i blow my 97t i wont have anything to run if my order doesn't come in.

If you are burning through 2 plugs in 4 tanks, the tune has to be off. I would suspect a lean top popping the plugs. Try richening the motor a few hours to see if plug life increases.

not sure.. first 77t i ran on this motor ran for about 2 tanks too.

97t ran all day and looked fresh at the end of the day. but 77t's don't seem to like this engine at all.

I have yet to run this engine, i just want to be able to have a back up plug for next weekends race. my LHS doesnt stock the 97t plugs they only carry the 77t. I have the 97t on order but i just wanted to make sure that i could use the 77t if i had to at the race.

After some extensive testing for over a month the only plugs that should be used in this engine are the 97T and 99T .97T in cold-warm days and the 99T in warm to very hot days .

No other plugs should be used and that means temp and brand .This engine has been designed with those two plugs mentioned above in mind and nothing else or put the standard button in and run the 99 plug standard.

Do this and you will never have flames outs .But please dont take this to offence but its the end user that is the problem with the engine at the end of the day fuel can also be at fault.

77T will work ok.....You can always put the other button on and run regular plugs:nod::nod:

Guys can we also use this thread to talk about faults with the engine and peoples experiences using the engine with what fuel ,what plugs what temp and comparisons with other engines on the market today. etc .

I would like to hear from end users from around the world about problems they have had with the engines and how they solved the issues and how they tested and compared with other engines on the market,pipe combinations ,glow plugs ,carb settings ,tuning,restrictors etc

thanks guys .

Ok here's my thoughts. I've heard of a heap of people saying there are faults with the engine, actually almost more people saying bad things than good things. I've had the motor for a few months now, I run the motor twice a month (race meets) and I have used 3 plugs in total, including the break in plug. I probably didn't need to change the plug in the last race meet, but erred on the side of caution.

Here's my summation for mine.

* break in done as per manual, more or less. I did a few more tanks than necessary, probably cos I was bored and my wife wasn't home, so I didn't have to do any domestic duties! LOL.

* broke in using OEM plug and Ryper Hobbies Purple Rush, 30% nitro.

* I run the OS P3 plug, or a GO turbo plug, which is more like a P4, regardless of what people are saying to use or not to use.

* I run a JP4 pipe.

* I haven't added any shims.

* Motor has heaps of balls, running it 80% WOT with a 6mm restrictor, and it gets the D8 buggy motoring along.

I have had no dramas at all. I am yet to pull her down and have a look inside, but I don't think I need to just yet.

Like anything mass produced, you get inherent flaws and faults, but the OD is no worse than any other mass produced mid priced engine out there IMHO.

Thank you for your input marz excellent write up .

I have not come to a conclusion as yet as i have more to look at before our final conclusion is ready .

Angelo - how about you send me a free Z01B, and I'll give you another write up! LOL

devilchrist 09-08-2009 08:14 AM

thread isn't just about faults and problem. also let's see what peoplehave to say abut this motor.

I'm comparing it to a OS speed motor and OS vspec, and i'll tell you, now that my metal pinch is gone, it's ballistic. I see no reason to swtich to 30% nitro.

it's ridiculously fast, my con rod has almost zero play on the crank pin.

only time will tell how long this motor will last but I dont' have any doubts that it will equal Vspec.
