All of those actually make a difference on engines at altitude. You can be the best tuner in the world and if your way over shimmed at altitude your gona run hot, have no power, and chase a tune all day. There were a good number of pro drivers this year that really struggled with their engines at Nationals here and the altitude at that track is 6,500 feet. It's not like any of those pros are bad tuners, so it's not as easy as just tuning it to make good power.

I was asking because I was hoping someone in here has actually been running a GO engine at altitude, and has tested different things. I mean it could be as simple as running 40-50% nitro or it could be pulling a head shim, running a cooler plug and going to 20%.

u could try one of these : http://www.massivemods.com.au/produc...roducts_id=314
i've got one on my truggy & the power diff is noticeable over the standard button ;)

I remember last year at nats in Colorado everybody was having power issues. Most people ran either 40 or 50% nitro and decreased deck height to compensate. That was every brand of motor. I am glad I live at 14 feet above sea level cause my tuning skills would not make it up there.

Well I do not run GO Engines, I do engine breakins, bearing swaps, engine rebuilds, and sleeve pinches for local racers here in Colorado. Because of this many of these people come to me for tuning help at the track or suggestions on engines for their kids. Since GO's are a budget engine it is naturally one of the engines people ask about and pick up without much knowledge. So Sorry I am not gona do the testing of these things, if nobody has anything they know is working well I will just recommend other budget engines when people ask. Sorry for the trouble.

yes there were a TON of people having issues you would not expect to have issues. Were you here for Nationals? Were you able to get good power out of your engine? If so what did you do?

im sorry you feel that way bro...i wish i could help you out but im in california so i dont have any problems with that.....but if i end up in wyoming im guessing this will become my issue aswell?....i ran my lil AE GT2 10 scale gas truck in wyoming last year and had no issues...i even broke the engine in out there and then brought it back here to cali and it ran great....

Kinda hard to understand why newbs using a budget friendly racing engine in extreme elevation would have problems

you are asking for a specific awnser? if you got you specific awnser there would be no testing involved. hope you find your awnser! i would also like to know about tuning to differnt altitudes myself!

hey chris... email Puddin- [email protected]. He was working with Adam Drake on this at the nats. They were using 40% Byrons and he can give you an idea of what shims they were using at high altitude. I remember talking to them and suggesting different options, but I didnt know until later that they were running 40%. I wouldnt recommend going any higher than that though.

"just sayin'" is not helpful or warranted. Cut it out.

Chris- I just talked to puddin. He was working with Drake and they ended up leaving the stock shim setup, but with 40%. That's one copper and one aluminum shim. If you feel like you're not getting the answers here or just smart ass comments, please feel free to ask us at our email addresses below.
Thanks,
Trey
