Yes please give as much info as possible that may be relative to helping answer any problems.

i am interested in trying ther gx5r in a truggy? Does any one run a d8t with one? how is it to tune, run times? i have heard they are bad on rods? Are they really tight at breakin like everyone i have talked too? thanks for your guys help in advance

EVERYTHING YOU PROBABLY HEARD WAS ALLLLLL FROM THE OLD GEN 5 AND 5.5 MOTORS....THE NEW GX MODELS ARE THE NEW AND IMPROVED MOTORS......THE RODS SNAPPING WERE CAUSE THE OLD MOTORS WERE TOO TIGHT(NOT THE GX)...THE CARB ISSUES WERE THE OLD MOTORS(NOT THE GX)...I GET OVER 10 MIN. RUN TIMES IN MY LOSI 2.0 TRUGGY.... sorry for the CAPS i had it on and started typing so i just left it

i have the .21 5.5 gen in my losi truggy and it screams, get about 10,min runtime, not hard on rods at all, i have origanal rod in mine after breakin and no play or wear at all. tuning has been a little tricky for me but make note this is the older model, gx series is suppose to be much better! good luck

GX5R is a great Truggy Engine. I run Mugen sorry. For tuning see the tuning bible or Grizz will chime in with the link. Run times easy 10+ min. The GX series is not as tight as the older series, you shouldn't have any Probs as long as you follow the run in as I'm sure Grizz again will post link to.
Most broken rods are due to human error no matter what brand engine, I see the same old mistakes being made on a weekly bassis and then blame the products when it fails.

yeah like not PRE HEATING a BRAND NEW motor....ive seen 1 blip of the throttle on a brand new NOVA and snap!....thanx to not PRE HEATING

Even on a run in engine, every time I put the Truggy out for every Qually etc I still do a a warm up lap of just short bursts of throttle durring the first warm up lap before I start to build up speed to normal race pace, I see so many guys start the car and rev it on the box (a big no no) then put it on the track and get straight into it at race pace (another no no), then wonder why the rod pops. So imagine the strain on a newer engine with less fuel throu it.

+1 on what all the guys have posted previously. No problems with the GX Series motors whatsoever. They are very popular in the Truggy class here - in fact one of my best mates just took out the NZ National Champs by 3 laps running the GX-5R in his Mugen. It performed flawlessly over the entire three day event, and just sat there idling away as happy as could be after being thrashed hard for 1 hour in the final .

brand new, only about 10 tanks of byrons gen2 pro 3000, went through 3 McCoys mc-55 plugs and 2 odonnell med. plugs in that amount of time breaking the motor in. Will now try adding the extra shim to ease the compression on the plugs, maybe that might help. I have never gone through that many plugs breaking in any other motor. I love my Go 21 7 ports, thats why we bought this motor....he wanted a 28 and is just a basher and not a true racer.

I believe it should have one alum. and 2 copper just like the other Go motors, it may have come with not enough shims. The Std. plug Go's use the shorter Os. style plugs. I think the Odonnell plugs have a Os at the end of the part #. You can also add 2 washers on the glow plug. I do not think it's your problem but just so you know.

is it the red, black or blue head ?
for starters - for the price of about 2-3 plugs change the head button to a turbo one (as you get a better seal with the turbos)
- check the rod hasn't stretched (as these motors are real tight during run-in, always pre-heat)
- check the exhaust seals as well

so if i buy a gx .21, anybody here going to break it in for me....lol????? im way to impatient for all that, i seem to want to rush things.
