Go-Tech Engines Thread

If you run the 5 port in a buggy I would try a couple things to make it manageable. Try 1.0 springs, a high end pipe like an 086, and maybe jump up a tooth on your clutch bell. You can also run a restrictor. All these combined will help tame the beast!

How do you guys think a Go Tech .21 7-port will do in a truggy? I do not like alot of torque and am a very smooth driver. I wen form a Picco .28 to a Axial .28RR and was alot faster with the axial because of the way it put the power to the ground. I am thinking the 5-port still me have a little too much torque them what I would like. The Axial RR is perfect but since I am now a dealer for the Go Tech motors I would like to run them in my buggy and truggy to promote them.

It really depends on the size of the track and the traction conditions. I am racing the 7 port with 053 pipe and have won the Amain the last two race weeks in a row at our track. The 7 port has less torque on the bottom end then the other motors I am running against, but it allows me to drive so smooth through the tight sections of the track, that the guys start pulling me in for 4-5 turns in a row, but can't do it for the 6-7 needed to catch me. A lot of their torque advantage is wasted by spinning wheels or accelerating so hard that they push through turns. I then pull another 20' lead down the staight away and it is all over. One of the guys has the 5port and it definitely has more punch, but the track is outdoors and gets a bit washed out, so traction and putting the HP to the ground is more important than all out torque. Unfortunately I was away when they had the big multi-state race a few weeks ago where a bunch of fully sponsored guys showed up. My fastest lap times in the last two races were only 0.8 seconds off the pro times!!! This would definitely not be the motor to get on a hard packed tight track though and I am still tempted to get a 5 port later this year to see if I can put some of that extra low end to work to shave off a few tenths.

The 7 port turbo is also a great truggy engine, it makes more bottom than people relize, good clutch set up and a 053 pipe and you will have a monster on your hands.

The 7-port feels like it has more torque than my Axial RR and also my SH .28 I had on my older buggy. I cannot wait for the next track day to really run it and see. I have not even leaned it out yet! Power is killer now at 175 degrees.

I found this weekend my engine seemed to be tuned well and as the weather changed I got a lean bog once again, engine would take off cold and be ok, then it would feel hot on the track. but I'd bring it in and it would temp at 190. So I heard to try a novarossi carb so I did for a qualifier. Put a quick rich tune both bottom and top. Night and day difference, it was WAY better. Had good bottom and top end, temped out about 210 after 6 minutes of hard racing.
Is there something wrong with a run of GO carbs???

I have just installed an OS VG P carb today and sealed with silicon. Will report back on how the VG carb performs in GO 3P R Spec later.

That is the sign of a good motor LOL! My picco .28 has about 30 tanks through it and it still gets stuck at TDC and have to use a screwdriver to free it up to get the starter box to turn it over.

I think their is a problem with GO carbs, my engine does not get hot at all, I have had close to 12 litres of fuel and I still cannot turn the engine by hand, even when it is stone cold with glow plug out.

Smooth is good for me, as I need to learn more throttle control. Hopefully this will make it as smooth as an OS Speed engine. I only wish.. By the way if anyone is going to use an OS VG P carb does it not come with restrictors so the 8mm restrictor will not fit, but if you intend using the OS V Spec carb the restrictors will fit as they come with 3 restrictors.
