Ghias are funny cars...they don't get nearly enough credit, very few cars are still around that were almost 100% hand crafted. All of the body panels were formed by hand, no presses or mass produced parts were made until the car was no longer being built..the car was literally stitched together piece by piece...which is also why they have horrible rust issues.
A set of Weber 44 IDA's go for $1200 now...just a couple of years ago they were only $600-700. I've got them stock piled like mutual funds...
...a few more pictures. Sold the bus this year to a family who was happy to have it...I got tired of camping. The orange car got wrecked last month, and that blue car was sold off and I actually ran into it on craigslist awhile go - unfortunately in pieces being parted out...the pic of the grey car was a 69 I had for a short while after replacing another car that was wrecked. I sold it to a local kid who unfortunately suffered the same fate of the car it had replaced for me - someone ran a red light and drove through it, ironically at the intersection that is no more than 50 yards from where this picture was taken.

Well, I cannot out do that Karman. Beautiful job. But, while the thread is stuck on VWs, here's my 73 Thing I rebuilt and painted this past year for my daughter. She has wanted one since age 12 (now 23). Could not pass up the opportunity to work on a car project ... for my daughter of course.

A Thing is on the list for me too. My girlfriend is really in love with them, I wasn't so much until I found one riding on air bags and 19" wheels. When they are 1" off the ground I can't resist...
You have a very nice Thing.. heh heh heh...I said thing..
They are such a great utility/jeep like VW it's a shame they are so rare because you don't really want to beat on them. Probably a little brutal in the winter I would imagine, not as sealed up as a sedan..

on the vw tip . I had my favorite, a meyers manx that I custom painted and it was a blast, but if you ever had one, they can be a wiring nightmare. ground problems galore, so i finally gave it away for 1500, worse part it had the super rare scooby doo hard top and it was worth more that the car and i just gave it away. yeah i know stupid is as stupid does i guess.
what about you george had any cool shiznit besides that ladder totting s-10.
we can make that thing drag rocker all day. makes getting those ladders down way easier at the job site. plus it'll attract a poop load of 17 year old chicks
